what car alarms do you guys have? which do you think is the best? just curious, just talking to someone I know, his Z got busted into last night, nothing got jacked or ripped up or damaged of any sort. he has an alarm and it just kind of sounded like a good topic. what about radar detectors?? anyone like those.

I got a viper alarm system, and the auto lock...Now I know that no one would try to steal my car...I'd rather get my shit scratched or bashed into then stolen, but I rather not think about that at all...And sorry to hear about your friend...Good luck.
Alarms are like hiring a security guard... You got to pick the right one. So I suggest you go with a Viper from my opinion...I dont know.

viper 260, backup battery and siren, remote doors. if someone really wants your car, they'll get it. but any alarm is better than none

Someone broke into my car in front of my house <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>. Seriously. Anyway, they just took my cds and cd player. I wished I had an alarm every time after that. But, I'd rather have a header than an alarm.

Lol it'd be funny seeing someone unbolting headers at 2<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>0 am (this is when people steal things in my neighborhood <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> )

if you think that some one is going to steal the car than just pull the fuse at night that is the best alarm they will get in it and try to start it and it wont start!! LOL

S13grl, I mean why not try unbolting headers 2am in the morning...It can be done quietly if you don't have an alarm right?...Heheh... Did you guys hear about that radar detector they now have on new cars, when it gets stolen the police can actually trace where your car is located...Zexel if you want something really safe, just get that. Are they selling that by the way?

Here are some ways to prevent your car from getting broken into or stolen...My opinion.
1. Never I mean NEVER bump your music loud in your own neighborhood.
2. Don't show-off too much (going fast or Reving your engine) where you're deciding to leave your car for more than 3 hours. Same goes for #1
3. Don't ever get your girlfriend/boyfriend or your friend mad. LOL.
4. Last but not least. Don't join a Racing Crew, and put a big sticker on your car that has your racing crew name on it.

Locks are for honest people. If somebody really wants your shit, they'll get it. An alarm will ward off a good deal of potential amateur thiefs, but they gotta know it's in there. I personally plan on spoofing an alarm, most tend to just have a flashing red light somewhere under the steering column. Don't know if it will actually work, but I'd rather find my car broken into in the morning instead of rudely awakened by a loud alarm at night. Gotta git my sleep :-) 'Sides, that's what insurance is for. Another thing to concider are alarms are #### annoying and false about 99% of the time.
groundzero had a very good point. If you don't have (or don't seem to have) anything of value in your car, then it's at a much lower risk.

hey groundzero, that's called Lo-Jack. they can trace it anywhere anytime after it was stolen, of course unless the thief finds it and takes it off. I heard that it also comes with a little pager to clip on your pants or your keychain.

Groundzero, those are pretty cool pointers! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
ANd the Lo-Jack stuff isn't a bad idea either. I kinda like the idea of keeping everything out of sight (under seats, trunk, glove box, etc...)
P.S. You gotta prop the car to take headers off. Wanna use jacks at 2<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>0am? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> hehe

if youre gonna use jacks in the middle of the night, just make sure you have a lookout. otherwise the owner is gonna club you in the back of the head

Well, seeing as I just bought a new alarm last weekend (after they got the stereo), I'll share what I learned. There are basically three alarm companies, Alpine, Audiovox, and DEI. Alpine I know nothing about, except that it is always about $60-100 more. Audiovox makes the Prestige line which has all your basic features. DEI is the maker of the Rattler, Viper, Avital, and Clifford. IIRC, that is their "order of prestige." As you get to a higher brand, it has more/better features and higher price. I've heard that Clifford isn't as reliable, but offers the most gimmicks. The basics are dual shock sensor, siren, flash lights, etc. Extras include door locks, pins for the hood and trunk, remote start (AT only), trunk release, window roll up, interior light turn on, etc. Expect to pay $250 installed for a base, up to about $450 for all the gimmicks. I chose a DEI model and got most of the add ons.

you can get autostart on a MT, but you have to do a series of things when you turn your car off, like leave the car in neutral. not recommended, but it is possible

Like I said S13grl, if you don't have an alarm why not jack it up and unscrew it...If I was a thief and I had the chance to do that I would bring coffee and a flash light 2am in the morning...Im not bothering no one right? That's is the whole point...Plus you would be sleeping tight with your teddy bear having dreams about a new part for your car and not realizing that you are leaving a treasure box outside of your house that is not locked...I'm stupid...LOL
