Im putting together a s14 2jz project and its time to order up my turbo. Problem is I can't decide what turbo will work best for me!
Could someone give me some input? I've been searching for weeks and can't seem to find anything that suggests a turbo for my application/requirements from my car. I wanna have something that's useable both drift and occasionally strip.
Been working with PSI in portland oregon and they suggest a efr9180 with quick spool valve, but they are only good to around 550hp
Or a gtx4088 with quick spool valve, but will still have lots of lag...?
Any recommendations?

You may look into holset's. I believe it's the hx52 that would be in your power range

Aasbo was making 720whp with a efr 8374 ...... efr 9180 540whp ????
A gtx4088 should be in those numbers too just look at tuerck and wang

Tuerck has a stroked 2j and uses NOS to spool so I didn't wanna use his car as an example.
any one have any links or videos of a 2j making more then 550 with a 9180?

My choice would be S366. 6756 could get there. if you want quick spool on a 3 liter making 750hp you need twin turbos really though.

6766 for broad powerband for fun street driving and 7175 for power at a higher powerband....both with E85. Here is my buddy Paul's car with the 7175. I had the 6766 with QSV but never got to run it. Plenty of people with the 6766 were hitting the high 700 low 800 mark.

I plan to run E85 so I'll have to look into these. My 2j is stock but I do have BC264 cams and gears... wasn't thinking and kept stock springs so I'm told I should tune my redline to 8500 max or I'll run into valve float?? Will that limit what the 7175 can do? No idea why as I'm not a turbo Master but (PSI) has told me to stay away from Precision turbos. Giving me only BW or GTX recommendations. I'll be fine in the 700s hp range just don't want super long lag time as I want to get into drifting a little more.

@Tac.....nice. I had BC spring kit, GSC S2 cam, ARP studs.
@NW....been out of the scene for a while but I read that Precision has had poor QA recently so maybe that's why. The BW S366 had made close to 700 on 25+psi but I would opt for an S372 cause it gives you more room for growth with awesome street manners.
Regardless of your turbo I would upgrade springs. You are using a higher profile cam and planning to rev past the stock recline. As far as the turbos, the 6766 spools about 500+ rpm sooner than the 7175 (obviously depends on other factors). In general I would call the 7175 a bit more of a drag/top end power turbo with the turbo starting to spool at about 4300 rpm. If you want a broad powerband mid and high rpms, a 6766 or similar turbo is the way.

I was planning on getting new BC springs and ti retainers, as i just had my cams, gears and valve steam seals installed but they said i will be fine with out replacing me valve springs. i already paid for the labor so im a little upset having to pay labor again to have new springs put in. maybe ill stick with my springs for now and see what happens come time to tune it. whats another 800 bucks at that point lol
the pt 6766 really looks good and from the videos ive watched ill be happy with the spool/hp out put.

Makes sense. Yeah the 6766 was a fun turbo on the 2J. Had a few locals let me take a spin in their car and the powerband and power was a blast.

67mm S400SX FMW is my vote. It's $1450 shipped and twin-scroll. Absolutely killer turbo.

What EFR9180 only good for 550whp? I made 541 whp on a dynodynamics at 3500ft at 13PSI. On a dynojet easily 600whp with extra 1 or two PSI, thr 541 on a dynodynamics is already basically close to dynojet 600whp. This is with almost no timing and injector issues...
