It's something I am wondering...

I had the following line on the last corner on the second day of my CAC event... I did not fare incredibly well while AceInHole took top honors in STS... But was that an ok line?

Looks to me like in the last few pictures that your rear end came out and you're counter-steering, right?

I'd say that with the exception of the slide and having to correct, that was a pretty damn good line. It depends a bit more on the turns/cones coming in and out of the turn, but it looks good from this angle :)

Yup, I powerslided the end of the curve (too much power)... little oversteer, barely lost speed... The, up to the stop box!! ;)

Coming in it looks like you have a little too much speed, and you're a little too close to the inside of the turn (apex side, not the outside).

Since you came in a little too fast, and your line was narrow, you ended up oversteering a bit, then having to counter-steer, which scrubbed off still more speed.

Cliff-Notes - Looks like you were a little too inside, and your line was a bit narrow.

great. HaLo's on the drifting bandwagon now.
Lemme guess. You're going to get a JDM SR20 for your car now, huh, ricer?

Good moves!
[edit: also, bravo to that photographer!]

that looks like a good line to me. and those pictures showed how well you're able to control the car. Eventhough you were sliding, you still managed to keep the line and come close to that last cone...
Very nice!
How do you take pictures like that anyways?

looks ok.. possibly enter the corner wider, and turn a touch later. Get the steering wheel straighter, and be smoother on throttle application on corner exit.

hmm... well, the fast guys were all off the last cone (Halo, remember which cones the ITR's were hitting?)... the turn follows a straight section after a very tight left hander, so coming off that left you're full throttle, approach the turn shown getting as far left as you can, brake just a hair harder than it looks like you need to (more than just a tap I'd say, but I was driving all of 90fwhp) and apex late, carrying as much speed as you can.

Yup!! I'm a bandwagon jumper.... JDM SR20, SSR Wheels and drifting in corners... What an ass I am! ;)

I mainly posted the pics because I love the sequence... ;)

I do know it's not that good of a line, because if it were, I wouldn't have to countersteer at the end. But at least, I do have control of my car. I lost maybe at most 2 tenths of a second on that corner.

with that slightly early apex, and the slide.. I would guess more than 1 second was lost there.

That much? I would agree if that corner set up a long fast strech... but the corner only sets up the end of the course, some 70 feets after the cone. ;)

It was at Sanair, near Montreal. It was our Canadian Auto-x Championship! AceInHole came to win the STS class... I did not fare as well though. :(

PJ couldn't attend with his 240sx so he beat everyone on a Civic HX with D2 coilovers and falken azenis...

The slit in my bumper is for cooling... check the photoshoot on my cardomain profile in my signature for more pics, or check the member rides. :D

ahhh, i see... looks like PJ needs to make some divisional events...

the slit is nice! help any on the track? id do something like that, but i think that'd bump me out of DSP... ill check into it though...

I think you'd be surprised. I always am when I go through a corner that I think was blazing fast, only for my instructor to tell me I still got a goos second or 2 I could make there.. What feels fast, is usually ass slow.

but then again, this is auto-x, so what do I know.. :Ownedd: I've only been 2 two auto-x's ever.

It doesn't matter that you've been only at 2 auto-x events. Technique for road racing and Auto-x are alike. :) I'll take it into consideration. ;)

yeah, similar but not exactly the same.

road racing: patient, relaxed = fast
autox: frantic, twitchy = fast :)

ive done both, lines are the same, but technique is different. every instructor ive ever had on a road course, says that he can tell i mostly autox. he said its easier for autox guys to relax and drive well on a road course, than it is for a road course guy to get frantic and do well at autox, LOL!! i love the time behind the wheel road racing, but i sure do like autox as well... ill just keep doing both then! :) charles, why dont you come out and autox with me some more? you did great at the event i was at...

I'd love to do some more auto-x's... I just never think about it, and never know when they are happening.

I need to try road racing... but I am so afraid to lose the car... and a mistake at 100mph doesn't forgive. :(

at 100 mph, your a little more careful... :)

oh yea, there is an autox down in columbia at CMP on the 8th & 9th. its an AWESOME event... basically a road course with an autox course on it... yum!

I wanted to hit up the divisional championship this year but I missed the registration cap which was at a measely 200. That's the same size as a NORMAL regional event!!! lame :smash:

But anyways, giong from the 240 to the HX was basically going from frantic to relaxed. I had time to look for all the people I knew working the course (all 2 fellow NER members). I was tempted to wave. I actually got a few comments on how smooth my driving was, though. Must've been in comparison to my R-compound drifts.... :)
I recently found out that the leak on my car was worse than I thought, and the turbo was only held on by 1 bolt. Reeeeaaallly good thing I didn't take my car all the way to canada. First bump up there on those chitty roads would've taken my turbo out. :faint:

u should definitely go. i haven't actually participated yet but i have gone to watch.

one time this kid was in our group... had a banged up new gen civic SI, idiot ricer, driving like a moron (holding up LINES of cars on the straights). they pulled him off the track a few times. despte a few near accidents caused by his stupidty he and his car came out mostly unscathed. if HE came out okay, i'm postive you with autox experience, knowledge of cars and driving in general you will be 100% fine.

those are awesome pics btw... kudos to whoever took the photos.

i had a SouthEastern Divisional autox this weekend... mind you i have all new settings: S15 HLSD, D2's, new alignment. i would have placed 1st or 2nd if i had not been disqualified. the DSP guys i were competing with ganged up on me and had me DQ'd for having the bottom foam seat cushion from the back seat out of the car. i couldnt fuck1ng believe it. i placed 2nd saturday (but later was DQ'd) and finished 1st on sunday. i remember my time from saturday down to the tenth, so i added it to my sunday score and both the first place car and i had a comined total of 86.5xx seconds!! but i cant remember the hundreth and thousanth from the first day, so im not sure i would have been second or first. he had a 86.525, so it would have been VERY close. down to the hundreth of a second!! oh well, its sad that they ruined a very close race with such bad sportsmanship. so thats my 240sx autox report... carry on! :fruit:

thats so lame man...generally people at these kinds of events are really nice and out there to have fun. its a shame that people like that have to show up, but at least you know that you were the fastest out there. congrats on the times.

Nice pics, I wish I had more from my events. I agree that it looks like you apexed a little early and therefore come out in an oversteer situation. A little wider entry and earlier braking might have smoothed that out, otherwise lookin good a glad to hear others are doing well. Ive managed to stay in top 3 pax times locally in La. for the last few events, and did a clean sweep of the last four events, with a 1st in sts in each event. Anyways Good Luck fellas and keep kickin ass
