Disclaimer: both entering and leaving this senario I have and ALWAYS will hold myself (and only myself) responsible for my actions.

It ended with good results but let me tell you I don't ever plan on giving a cop another opportunity to see what's under my hood.

So some friends have been telling me about a remote place they let have been letting loose for a few months down by the San Yisidro border. Never really being interested in shinnanigans like that, I've stayed clear of going with them.

Well today my s13 gets hit by someone backing out of their parking space. (stock s13 horns suck! but that's another story) So I was looking for something to cheer me up.

So i decide to go down this day and check it out. (big mistake)

Well we get there and it's an abandoned truck loading dock in an industrial park. Well not long after the first guy goes out for a powerslide, cops come in and block the exits.

"This is just fabulous."

Well my friends and I are lined up when cops start drilling us.

--FC rx-7 (stock)

--s13 coupe (stock exterior, black primered trunk, gutted interior, s13 blacktop stock sidemount and airbox)

--P10 G20 (stock, h stock champion =P)

I'll skip the routine where they ask us if we are aware of trespassing and get to the drilling of our cars.

Rx-7 guy is first...i see them make him pop his hood and my heart drops. They got nothing on him though.

Next my s13. I pop my hood.

cop: Is there anything on your motor that is NOT stock?

me: I have a K&N panel filter in my airbox, that's all.

cop: Do you have your CARB sticker for it?

me: No. (i didn't feel like arguing about the legality of a replacement panel filter)

*two other cops walk over to my bay and start examining*

other cop: okay close your hood and sit in your car. What year is your car?

me: ...90.

*cop walks over to his trunk and pulls out a binder and starts flipping for awhile*

At this point i'm pretty worried because i've been hearing about binders full of pictures of stock bays, and if your car doesn't look like the picture-off to the ref you go.

Cop seems to not find anything in the binder he's looking for.

***weird part***

I don't quite get this part....but they pull me, and only me, out of my car and bring out a black case. I'm thinking SH^& it's a camera, there's gonna snap my bay. I'm screwed.

They pull out a breathalizer.

cop: this is a LIE DETECTOR. It will tell us if you have been lying to us or not. Blow continuously into this end for 10 seconds. Do NOT fake blow into the detector.

So i blow into this thing thinking "wtf" Of course nothing comes up.

******

In the END.....

they let the three of us go with trespassing tickets.

The cop tell me he's not going to write me up for my k&n panel filter.

We leave and I feel lucky (which i am) and vow to never let that happen again.

To reiterate for those in the slow seats: I take all responsibility for my actions.

I am posting this for anyone who would be interested to see how it went down.

thank god in eastern WA we don't have any emissions testing!
So ironic how cali is the most anal with car modding, yet is the most prevalent place for it.

Congrats on not getting your car impounded!
Cop sounded like an :mrmeph: thinking he could just get you to think the breathalyzer was a lie detector... he didn't even say polygraph or anything? wtf? u know better just from watching movies and TV :P

Good story tho

Breathalyzer is a polygraph, lmao. Thats funny as shit...Glad to hear nothing became of it though(other than tresspassing ticket). What an idiot cop,how can you look at an SR and think that came stock in a USDM S13?

It won't if the cops keep screwing up like that huge bust in Houston or wherever it was. But I wouldn't be surprised if Texans have to deal with similar enforcement in the future.

Well these cops seemed pretty car ignorant as well.

They asked for a CARB number for a panel filter in a stock airbox.

i work at K&N... Panal air filters do not need carb numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

odd, i'm half an hour from houston and nothing comes to mind. i would be surprised because they'd have to weed through thousands of trucks, mustangs, and F-bodies before us small fish were ever on the list.

besides.... liberals don't run our state... its freakin Texas ;)

yep Cali sucks fat political/money cock. Every wonder why we get so much CARB love? Becuase we are the most automitive involved state. As far as car culture goes, Cali has always had the biggest. Wait till the car culture starts to develop in your states.

But overall, if you saw the mornings in L.A., you wouldn't whine too much about this clean air crap.

Actually, THX247's post has some relevence to this topic - cops are known for pulling stupid shit like this. I know cuz I hear stories like this all the time. The portable breathalyzer as a lie detector was pretty damn funny !!! You should hear the story about how cops used a Mobile Data Display terminal, ( a computer used to send information back & forth to the dispatcher), as a Fingerprint Scanner...something it's NOT designed to do!!!!! ...hahaha... Cops pull crazy shit like this to get people to admit they are lying OR to NOT to look stupid for when they, (the cops), screw something up...which they usually do.
On a side note though and somewhat related...be prepared...cuz it's coming!! In California in order to be given a driver's license or identy card, your thumbprint is scanned on a small fingerprint reader at the time it is issued. California is now in the initial phase of installing portable fingerprint scanners in patrol cars so cops, (while conducting a legitimate investigation based upon probable cause), can run identy checks on people who's identity is questionable.

hehe you too eh? Yeah, one of the reasons that made me want to go to FL. Can't wait til my car is here.

Your very lucky about the hood being pop'd and not getting fawked. He just wanted to see if he can get you on another count, cause he couldn't get you on any car mods.

thats just funny guy i woulda wanted to be like "officer now that you know im not lying AND im not drunk can i go?" they guy was just messin with you. quite frankly, if i was a cop do you know how many lie detector tests or portable emissions readers or whatever id have in my car? id be all inspector gadget and thats an all in 1 unit! lol glad you didnt get screwed and that the cop was just plain dumb... you let him have his fun so he didnt really care. good times my friend. i dont really agree with holistic however because you went to an abandoned parking lot which is safe imho. i dont wanna discourage anyone from doing that there because its better than drifting in a school zone and then all the little kid splatter gives us a bad name...

okay, the dumbest question + 364858.....................wtf is a "CARB sticker"??

did that come with the Injen intakes, or just the pop in filters? :duh:

A CARB sticker is placed on products which have passed the California Air Resources Board's testing procedures. In other words, a company has to pony up a large sum of money to have these freakin' morons sit on their asses for six months deciding if an intake increases emissions output too much. Bullshit, if you ask me.
If you put products that do not have a CARB certification on your car, you can be fined. This is what the cops look for when they bust up streetraces and make you pop your hood. This is the arbitrary thing that screws us Cali people over if we want to make legal power. This is why I'm against visual inspection.

It was like that in Santa Barbara for quite a while. Cops pulled me over in my supra with a super quiet Greddy Mx exhaust. He ask me for my liscence and registration and proof of insurance it all passes and then all of a suddden he ask me if my partner can look under my hood. I was like no! and he was like let my partner look under the hood. And then I go no there is no probable cause. And he said my modified exhaust was. (The Santa Barbara police pulled people over at the euro socal vs norcal when they were leaving just for stickers etc...and were doing this shit for about a month now). After a few more No's the cops insisted on popping my hood and there it was a non carb intake and then they started examining my car and found the intake and they cited me for my exhaust and then they tried to cite me for my STOCK headers.

I told them they were stock showed them the o2 sensor bung and primary cats and i told them if they want to see the secondary to crawl under the car in which he didn't want to. And then after a bunch of cirlce jerking another 2 cops roll up thinking they know their shit and he points out that my headers are "illegal" I continue to tell them that they are stock and blah blah blah which they are.

To make the long story short illegal smog device and 27015 a all cars must be equipped with an adaquate muffler. Went to UCSB schools newspaper and to the santa barbara news press. Got both our stories published in front page. about 2 month later go to court and got it thrown out
