Just curious. I know its hard to compare when some cars are modified and some cars are not, but just to start things off. I have owned and driven a modified 240SX, a stock Miata, a modified VW Golf Golf GTI VR6 and a modified S4. Yes, an S4. The Miata was fun, great handling, but lacked power. The VR6 was smooth and powerful, but lacked the handling prowess of the 240SX. The S4 was superbly balanced with unreal torque, but was too heavy. I had to sell the S4 because of financial reasons (going back to school) and bought a used 91 240SX. At first I didn't think I could handle driving a car that was 10 times cheaper, but the 240 surprised me. I had owned one a long time ago and to tell you the truth, I really missed it. It is good to be back driving it and I honestly think it was (and is) the best handling car I have driven. Sure it needs a little power (which the SR20DET will more than compensate for), but I think I will keep this car for a long time. It is nowhere near the class, quality, smoothness and balance of an S4, but #### it is a lot more fun to drive. Kinda got off on a tangent here, but I was wondering if any of you out there have driven much more expensive cars and still came back to the 240.

My mom drives a Lexus ES300. Its like driving your couch down the road but the under steer is horrible. She once got it serviced once and got a 99 GS300 as a loner. I loved the over all "pimpness" of it. It had power and carved out the corners nicely, and that was the 300, I can't immagine what the V8 is like. bottom line it would have to take a car like an S8, or the new GS430 to get me to sell my 240.

P.S. I don't mean to imply that she has only had it serviced once. (LOL)

I've had the following:
83 Ford Escort Wagon. (1st car) -it bites
89 Olds Cutless Ciera- It was ok..until things started falling off of it..literally
91 Nissan Maxima SE 5 spd- I loved the way it handled (mistyped the 5-spd)
87 Honda CRX- no mods..sold it
95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD- My favorite car. Too bad i crashed it
89 Chevy Cavalier- P.O.S
91 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX- fun to drive.
91 Honda CRX with tons of mods-b16 engine, exhaust..all that. never timed it on the 1\4 mile
95-240SX- still getting used to it.

---other cars that i've used or borrowed (never owned)--

2001 Lexus GS400--huge car drove for about a month
1996 BMW 328 IS--chick magnet

all the cars had their positives and negatives..except the domestic cars. They were all negative.

i love the SC400 (my boss had one and i pimped it around when he was out of town- i was only 17-19)
it handled so nice and i actually drifted it before...
also i drove around his LS400, that thing was huge and it felt like driving your bed down the street with those nice swedish pillows)

The only cars I've had the opportunity (or misfortune) to drive are:
'90 Pontiac Grand Am...first car POS!
'95 Chevy Z-71 4x4...nice truck but very un-nerving at speed.
'95 Honda Accord EX...nice car. Handling and power were fair, but pretty good considering it's an economy family sedan.
'99 Pontiac Grand Am SE...girlfriend's car. It's a huge improvement over my old Grand Am, but I still wouldn't own one again.
'?? Lincoln Town Car..."the tank." It's my granny's car...the V8 gives it good power, but it handles like...well, like a tank.
and now the only sports car I've driven...my 240SX. It's, of course, by far the best handling car I've ever driven...then again, I don't have alot to compare to.

i've had a dodge omni 3 speed auto, it handled like poo, drove like poo, looked like poo, but it was fun as..shit, had some good memories in that car. 90 S10 5speed, i wanted to swap a 350 and auto transmission in it, and somedays i wish i did, then i drive my 90 240sx 5 speed through the backroads, and i'm glad i didn't. i've driven a ford probe GT, and a Camaro RS auto. they are a bit slower and don't handle as well. after driving my friend's 300ZX TT, it's hard to go back to the 240sx, but for only 3 minutes, then you realize how much lighter the car is and you start thinking about a turbo setup (KA-t or SR)

All of the cars I've had have been rwd, but i do like awd cars a lot 2.

-1990 skyline gts-t, great car, plenty of power w/ the ball bearing turbo, handled great, reliable, and overall fun car to drive (had to give it up when I moved from Japan)
-1990 camaro rs, mostly used as a driving car, I was looking for a 240sx, but couldn't find any as they are pretty rare here, I came back from a months vacation in FL so I needed a car quick before school started, had it for about a year n just kind of cleaned it up along the way. wasn't really a fast car, much rather have a 240.
-1996 240SX, my current car that I will probably never get rid of...ever. it does lack power now, but that can be changed in the future. i love driving it so much that i would never go back to buying a camaro or much else ever again. u all have 240's, so i'm sure i don't need to explain how great they r.

in japan, not so much in the U.S., i got to drive a lot of friends cars like supras, gti-r's, celica gt-4's, silvia k's, mr2's, an evolution 4, and cars like that. i definitely consider the 240SX to be in the same class as pretty much all the well known import cars, especially when they're modified. although i will always be devoted fan to 240's, i wouldn't mind adding other cars to my dream list of cars

1989 Honda Prelude 2.0s - slow as #### but a nice looking and reliable car
1988 Toyota Camry - Currently driving, slowest piece of shit ever, yet too reliable.
1996 240sx - For sale, I'm not really used to this car, and I'd love to get a VW GTI

other car's I've driven:
1992 BMW 325i, smooth and handles real #### well
1990 BMW 325i, same as above but lacked the power the E36's have
1997 GMC safari - #### of alot of power for a minivan
1998 Toyota Tacoma - fast lil pickup truck..
1986 Acura integra - similar but faster than my prelude

I drove a 95 hundie elantra for 2 years. It was awful, I probably would have lost in a race against a 10speed. Then I testdrove an (95-98 not sure which)integra, (2000)mustang, (96-98 not sure which) eclipse, (95)3000gt, (96)240sx, (98)transAM, (late 90's)neon, and (98)caveler (dono why i tried the last two). I bought the 240 a couple days later. It was the only one I liked out of all of them. The eclipse would have been my 2nd choice but it had too many blind spots and driving it just kinda felt weird. The integra was fun to drive. Light, quick, good handeling but it felt weird too. Sitting in it just felt odd, it was like the whole car slanted from the back down to the front on the inside as well as the body. The mustang, transam, and 3000gt were fast but just way to heavy, i didn't like the feel of them at all. The neon and caveler, well what can I say, they sucked. So to answer the original question "how good are 240's compared to other cars" it is the best car around.

Are we comparing the 240sx to other cars that we owned or cars that we have driven? Well my first car I drove for almost a year (my mom's car) it was a 95' Cavalier. To put it simply it is a commuter car, as plain of a car you can get, no comparision to a 240sx. My next car I owned for 2 years, it was a 85' 300zx n/a. What can I say I loved that car. It compares nicely to a 240sx, I beat slightly modified 240sx's around town in it. It could corner just awesome, felt good at all speeds, was a two seater (which I like), and looked good. It was slower then my car now, but I still miss the feeling of a torquey car. Don't flame me everybody but If I had a choice between a 85' 300zx (expecially turbo) or my car now I would go with the Z. Other cars I have driven, 93' Nissan 300ZXTT, 90ish 300ZX 2+2, (US spec) 240SX s13, 92' Nissan Maxima, Toyota Tundra, 92' Ford Mustang GT, 79' 280ZX, 90' Civic Hatchback, mid 90's MR2 na (slow), early 90's Miata (uhggg), 2000 Miata (uhgg but alittle faster), and many other cars I can't think of. I would compare em all, but they all have their plus and minus's s!!!

1986 Toyota Camary - beginner car

1991 Honda Accord - It was comfortable, and thats all

1992 Nissan 300zx tt - I loved it and hated it at the same time. A few problems (expensive ones) and it was making me drive like a madman because it was so fast (sometimes 150 on the freeway)

1995 nissan 240sx - going to sell it for another 300zx tt. I am addicted to twin turbo pull

well, considering my 90' is my first car... all i can go on is what i've driven that has been fun to drive. lets start with a 83' alfa romeo spider, fun as ####. 88 porshce 944, good, but not as good as a 240. 99 mustang gt, too big. under powered . 94 sentra, fun but lacks handling. 98 grand marquie, useful when going pimping.:)

Hum, synopsis of cars I've driven (240 to 240):

'84 Volvo 240DL (dad's, mine for a summer) - Bignslow, but then again I wasn't experienced enough to take advantage os something better

'87 Sentra wagon (dad's mine for a monthish) - slowish, nice cargo space, comfy seats.

'86 Civic sedan (family, used during highschool) - Not bad, even for taking a golf club beating in Compton. Would likely still be driving it had the water pump not blown up (literally). All that's left of it is a broken gear my mechanic uses as a paperweight
'87 Chevy Nova (sister's shared during highschool) - Drives like oatmeal, but flarking bulletproof. 270k miles, looks like shit, but still functions.

'90 Cheyenne 1500 Shortbed (owned) - Sweet sweet truck, never gonna die either, 260k miles with nothing more than a fuel pump, alternator, battery or two, lights, oil and gas. It's my baby #2.

'93 Sentra 2door 5spd (dad's/brother's) - purdy quick, base model by no means comfortable. Quite functional.

'89 240sx auto (owned) - Fun fun, got me hooked on sports cars. Not really much quicker than the Civic it replaced, but infinitely more ph33r.

'94 Isuzu Trooper (dad's/brothers) - Big, slow, top heavy, but 4wd and offroadable. Not stressing not getting it.

'95 Mustang 3.8l (friend's) - Looks good, but not as quick or agile as my '92 SE. A bit more comfortable to ride in.

'92 240sx SE 5spd (owned) - w00t. Agile, much quicker than the '89 auto, not gonna give it up for a loooooooong time.

Oh, yeah: Besides the '96 240 and the WRX, my car was the best of the bunch. I love it and will never get rid of it. I'm not joking either.

1988 Lincoln Continental Mark VII - This was a pretty pimp car with a Ford 5.0 liter engine...same setup as the mustang GT's. It had good pickup, but it was heavy. It was probably about high 15 or low 16 second car. Had tons of torque. Nice interior. The airshocks went out and my car got all lopsided so I sold it.

1986 Mustang GT - Besides my new 98 240sx, this was my favorite car. 5.0 liter engine....very fast. It was stock but probably ran a 15.5 or so.

1986 Z28 - 305ci engine 5.0 liter V8. This car was sort of a POS but it sounded really good and was faster then my 240. (my 240 is stock right now)

1998 240sx SE - (auto) This car rocks. Charcoal leather interior. Handles great. I can't wait until I get my intake in..as well as my denso plugs and magnecore wires.

Umm.. well. I like my car, dont get me wrong, but I have driven better handling and faster cars. Heres how it goes.
1st car. '96 Corvette. Heavily modded, 11.2 sec 1/4. 285-35-zr17 FRONT tires and 315-35-zr17 rears. That thing GRIPPED the road like nothing else i've driven.
2nd car. '96 240sx se. Looks good. Turns heads. Small tires = bad handling.. and pittley engine - no power. These can all be fixed.

Borrowed/Stole
'89 cavalier- BOOOOO!!
'86 Fiero- much worse than the cavalier!
'92 Chevy Lumina- Torque. But FF setup sucked.
'95 Acura Integra- Nice car, almost as fast as my auto 240sx, but FF.
'98 Dogde Viper- POWER!! Massive tires, but I still spun it out at Skip Barber.
'96 Chevy Camero V6- no power. Heavy.
'89 Supra Turbo- Power, but drove like a sled.
'93 Miata- Scary. No power. Handles though.
70's Datsun 280zx- Loud. Powerful, but no power steering, and it felt REALLY heavy.

Thats about it. I think that with more money than I have right now, I could make the 240 what I want it to be. About 245 tires and a s15 engine. It'll be hooked up.

i think the 240's a great car. heres my list of cars ive driven

1.ferrari 360 modena-- holy shit its fast and it handles better than anything ive ever driven. grip up the ####### and power to match
2.lamborgini coutach-- can you say ass breaking ride. the suspension was so stiff i thought my teeth were gonna fall out. really good handling too but jitery cause of the short wheelbase. nice power.
3.mercedes clk 430-- that was nice lots of power but the steering was numb and you were too isolated. it hand good handling though nothing special
4.chevy blazer-- sux felt like it was gonna fall apart.
5.jetta gls 2.0--no power i felt like i was driving a really heavy golf cart. crapy shifter and a lag when you floor it
6.bmw x5 4.4--that really hauled ass for an suv and built like a tank. handled awsome for an suv
7.acura integra type r. that was really nice. it was slightly modified but not enough to see a real diference. it had pretty good power and i couldnt even tell i was going 120! it felt like 60mph. really really really awsome shifter. better than anything else in the world except maybe the ferraries shifter.
7. civic 97'--not bad i was suprised at how fast it was for only like 115hp it was an lx. nice steering but it was an auto so i cant say bout the shifter.
8. nissan 240sx se(my car) needs some power but great handling for the price and a not bad but nothing great shifter. maybe i can get a b&m short throw soon!

thats about it. if your wondering were i got to drive all the nice cars my godfather's rich so i test all his cars for him

" HOW good is the 240"
I`ll tell you after my next car. I haven`t had anything as hot as this so far. A few absolutely terrible vauxhalls (never again) and a handful of lesser nissans (very reliable every last one). I`m going to keep my SX for about 4 years , maybe more ( cos its only done 18,000 miles) and then i want to move into the 4-5 second league. I want a Supra or an EVO. Imprezas are too common over here and not the best looking car (they can be made to look nice though) .
Then i`ll tell you how good the 240 is.
