When I turn the key over it makes this grinding sound. I put a new CAS in because my buddy said mine was bad after I got into a fender bender. Engine would just crank and no start. So i bought a CAS from a guy on here and we installed it, we go to crank the engine over and we hear this grinding sound. So after a second crank it fires up, Then we turn it off then go to start it up again and we hear that grinding sound again. I'm pretty sure we installed the CAS correctly so could this have to do with the timing or what?

A sr or ka? Or?
And this is funny cuz i just put my sr back together and i noticed i forget to install the timing tensior gasket :picardfp:
So i am also hearing sort of a " zzzzzzzz" noise by the alternator :picardfp:

If the grinding only occurs when the key is turned to start, and the engine does not crank, it would be your starter solenoid going out. It would be the gear on your starting not engaging the flywheel completely causing the grinding sound.
