does the sound come from the brakes? or the suspension?
My brake pads used to pop sometimes when I hit them.. almost ounded like a little balpein hammer hitting the rotor.
Is the noise coming from the front or the rear? If its the front then may be T/C rods. If its the rear could be sub frame bushings that are worn down.

There's only two bushings in the front you need to worry about - TC rod bushings and LCA bushings/balljoints.
I have the same thing. Replaced stock TC rods with SPL Parts ones and it still clunks... For me it's got to be the LCAs, your situation may be the other way though.

Charles, did you ever fix that? What did you replace/change?

I had a similar problem...replaced the t/c rod bushings with whiteline and it was still there. It turned out to be a loose bolt. If you plan on replacing bushings in the front, I'd do it in this order: t/c rod, LCA, steering rack. Its probably something you can figure out by inspection and symptoms.
you might as well upgrade if they need replacing...

This set is a great deal if you can do it yourself...you should probably have a vice, a torch, a bfh, and lots of misc. sized metal cylindars.
I had another clunking problem coming from the rear...it was my inner tie rods. The ball joints were worn out.

might be bushings

i had a clunking coming from my rear end.then i installed the subframe spacers and it went away. so if its your rear most likely your bushings are wore down on the subframe.

Alright, the car does have 178k miles so I am sure a few things are worn out.The theory on being worn out bushings is what I had come up with.

It went away when I went with different pads. I've since learned that some pads when they get hot and outgas, can be pushed away from the rotors when you release the pedal. so when you hit the brakes, sometimes they can make a little tinging noise as the pads smack the rotor face..

chimp that sounds more like the calipers needed to be cleaned. Sticky pad rails or whatever

this was with the old stock calipers and Axxis Metal masters. I've never had that happen with the z calipers. I guess it could have been sticky slide pins..

who knows what it was....my integra had the same problem before I moth balled it last year. Maybe I'll find out what it was soon.
Pads usually move on the slider because of the rotor pushing the pads when you turn. Pads can get pushed back soo much that there is a brake pedal condition called knockback, where you basically have to pump the pedal a little bit before trying to apply the brakes again because the piston has been pushed back so far.
