I guess that's what I meant... People talk too much about it... Everyone wants to DRIFT now... It's the new craze!! No more 1/4 mile times (FnF is dead baby!!!), it's all aboooot drifting... sidewayz... JDM.

Drift is hard, it's not as easy as people believe it to be... Professional drifters smash their cars every once in a while (hell, even our known drifting eat through front ends, aka Dousan_PG!).

Anyways... that's my rant. I respect real drifters for their skills, but I still think that this drift thing is way too much overrated in a certain way. A good drifter may not necessarily be a good course driver, vice-versa.

And drift is not a motorsport... it's more an art... Just like figure skating is to speed skating...

Most really good drifters a good course drivers first. Alot of good drifters may not be experienced on courses, but rather on technical mountainsides, etc. Good drifters know the line and how to follow it.

I dont like it when people ask me, "do you drift?" it sounds retarded.

If you're a staff in some drift club that hosts an event, you'll be surprised how wannabes acted, you'll get to see the wannabes separating themself from the rest, which is kinda funny.
I've seen people that will come to our drift events and act all big such as, "man I'll show these fools how to drift!", "drifting is easy", "I'll show these rwd guys how to do a fwd drifting".
these kind of people, after about 2 or 3 runs will dissappear and not show up again in the future.

I see drifting as a way to know more people(real enthusiasts, not wannabes) and have fun.
All and all, I still prefer AutoX though. :)

I agree that Drifting is overhyped. However, actually drifting the car, that's not overrated, if you don't take it totally seriously. It's never gonna be F1 or JGTC. But, I've never done anything even remotely as fun as getting my S14 sideways. And, even if I suck, it's still totally awesome, being in the car and controlling something like a drift!

Now, what's really overrated: AE86s. Yeah, they're good for drifting, and they're fun, but, for god sakes, paying 3000 bucks and up for a 20 year old economy car is insane!

the way i see it, drifting to ME has always been a mix between traction and loss of traction. i dont like full slides where speed isnt kept up, i like going into turns with traction and powersliding in the middle to the exit of the turn. when you're riding the limit of traction and are capable of tearing up an exit, i think you've found a very effective form of driving.

however, this still doesnt stop me from wanting to learn how to enter a turn sliding and continue that slide until the end of the turn. i full drifts are awesome but should be done safely (not on public roads), so unfortunately i'm pretty limited as to where i can do this kinda stuff without risking my driving priveledges, car, health, and others.. etc etc.

as for the hype, it doesnt really bother me anymore. if anything bothers me, its the additional attention on my car.. which can make it more of a target in the sense that it will be vandalized and stolen. BUT, what can you do. All I know is I am one of the few putting the time and effort into making a CLEAN car.. so i think if you keep chipping away at your car, you'll eventually get admiration from people who respect your work. as for people who are just doing it for attention, people will always notice cars where corners have been cut. so, might as well follow your passion and do it for the love of the sport, not for the hype.

Ive had this same conversation five or six times. Ive was fookin drifting before I knew what it was. It's called driving to school/work in a Chicago winter in a 2 ton tank (4X2 Suburban, Silverado package w/Locking Diff). I didn't buy a 240 to drift. Yeah I chose it cause it was RWD, that's what Im used to (see signature). It has excellent turn-in and response, and is fun to work on. I hate gettin thrown in with that drift crowd.

when making a turn at an intersection, those who do the turn, but go into the outer lane instead of the inner lane like they should. ex: if you are making a right, make the right and go into the right hand lane. dont make the turn and then go into the left lane.

you're overestimating the driving intelligence of the common person. i have a friend; nice girl, pretty, etc. does ok in school. when she gets into the car she turns into a monster. she relies on the fact that people can see her to basically ignore all regular traffic rules. she doesn't yield at yield signs (honks), doesn't stop at stop signs, doesn't signal when changing lanes, purposely cuts people off, etc. then she gets mad if you are in her car and you get scared.

I know you are just bashing on ignorant drivers, and I am right there with you on that. BUT, Don't generalize the comment to 16 year old Civic drivers. That's just as bad as all the people seeing a 240sx and asking whether you have an SR or if you drift.

Drink boddington's. It's the shizzle fo'real. No nasty bottom of the beer yeast or whatever it is. Sierra pale ale has the worst gunk on the bottom!
The only thing I hate about boddington's is the little freshness thing thats in the can. First time I drank one I poured out like a gulp or two because I thought there was a syringe in my beer(I had a few drinks before I did this).

I hate stripping nuts and bolts. It hate it even more when the head of the bolt breaks off in whatever you were trying to take it out of in the first place. I have 4 stripped subframe nuts because I was too lazy to use the impact gun. That just pisses me off.
