ok look my mom bought a shift knob for her car and she told me to install it which seems simple enough considering some of the other stuff ive done to my car.  well any way i tried to take the oe one off and that little fucker wont budge.  i wanted to know if theres a little trick to it or if i just doesnt come off with out breaking the #### thing which i cant do.

some companies use an adhesive to glue down the knob
check with VW,,,
i couldnt get my old knob off my 240sx
so when i got my SS i needed to find a new one

I think I can help you out here...Since I have a VW but not a 1999-2002 so what I will tel lyou to do is ask the guys on www.vwvortex.com just goto the forums and they will be more then happy to help you out.

I had trouble taking my shift knob too, but I think there's a trick to it.
Don't gradually put pressure on it, but instead twist it with a sharp snap.

thanks alot guys that helps.  i think is glued down cause i tried both the teqniques sharp snap and long twist and neither worked

just get a pipe wrench, wrap the knob in a towel, and pull til it comes off.

every time someone asks me to put on a nob in there car i cut the shifter  down about 2 inches looks better and IMO its faster than the obx(aftermarket shifters)
mine is about 2 inches off the center console deck
every1 askes me y it is so short

my240likenoother, if you cut 2 inches off of it, that leaves no thread.  how do you keep the knob on then (without using super glue)?  i could see maybe an inch, but 2?

Aftermarket shift-knobs don't get screwed directly onto the shifter. MOMOs use little screws that "bite" into the metal part of the shifter, so as long as the base isn't too thick, you're good to go.

How do you cut your shifter anyway?!?!?!

my razo knob does screw in.  it came with a hard plastic piece that is smooth.  as you turn it on the threads, the grooves form.  then i take it off, add some locktite, and put it back on.

hacksaws are good for cutting shifters.  i'd lend you mine, but i don't think you'd give it back.
