I plan on getting a 240sx for my first car with a rb25 in it. I already know how to drive stick and I know how to handle the more powerful cars since I've been practicing on my neighbors rx-7 (definitely not stock). So my question is should I save up my money to get a shell with a full interior and swap in the engine and tranny at once, or get the whole car at once with the stock engine and swap in the engine and tranny later on. Also, what is the average price of the shell of a 240sx?

Personally i would recommend grt a running car to verify everything works or there will be alot of headache with seeing what you dont know if it worjed or not before fixing

Stick with a honda.
But seriously a shell will nickel and dime you to death. Also a full car will be driveable so you have less chance of losing interest on the project.

You sure have a cool neighbor. Get a running car. Then sell the engine for money to replace the rb coilpacks, ceramic turbo, seals, timing belt, getting mad, putting in a 1jz instead.

If I were to do it all over again LS1 is the best choice, more upfront costs but upgrading is cheap and easy.

Forget upgrading it. Just drive a stock LS-X and be happy. Or turbo it with a mild cam. Dont bother really opening the engine.
I think any stock LS-X with about 9psi of boost is an extremely fun 240sx to drive.

Thanks guys and you guys know of the fastest way to find 240sx's? I've been looking for about 3 months and they are only on craigslist and not stock. Do you think old dealerships will have them?

No they are way to old...craigslist or autotrader...look outside of your state too...particularly where there isnt any rust

he's in south florida, lots of driving looking out of state...won't be a lot of rust, he'll have to deal with someone's failorida car though.

All depends in priorities. In my opinion I think dropping your own engine is the best way. So you know what you have done and you know that car inside and out. This only pertains if you have a separate car to drive as a daily.
I think opening the hood of your car and looking at what you have accomplished brings pride.
