Digital Speedometer only lights up sometimes

I've searched for this issue and haven't found things specific to my problem.

My digital speedometer doesn't work...most of the time. It doesn't just sit at 0, it doesn't show anything at all. It's just blank. I thought it was the cluster so I took it out and tried another. Same thing. It's only the speedometer. The rest of my gauges work, and every light works in the cluster. It's just the speedometer that isn't showing up. But sometimes, it shows up randomly and then fades away after a bit....what could this be?

Bad surface mount capacitors in the digi portion of the cluster. They suck to replace but it can be done, did it on a previous coupe of mine.

Sometimes if you run the car long enough (45+mins) the caps will warm up and the cluster will come to life.

Is it likely to be capacitors if both clusters did it???

maybe a bad ground...I never had the light not work when I hooked up my nx1600 cluster but the mph wouldnt read anything until I got on the highway and they would bounce all over the place...went throught the wiring again and had 1 ground not hooked up right and problem solved.
