So recently I had a blow by issue with my S13 redtop SR. I started smelling something burning when I'm in full boost. Turned out to be oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold. It was only happening in full boost. It seems to be quite a bit of oil. I don't have a catch can but planned on getting one this week. I just have a breather filter before.
I later then noticed my manual boost controller, which was set for 10psi, was missing the control valve meaning I was over boosting. Lucky for me, my boost gauge broke so I trashed it a month ago and haven't bought a new one. I did notice a weird increase in power but was a little preoccupied this week to look into it. I immediately returned my vaccuum back to normal and trashed the boost controller. Motor has ran a long time without this sort of issue so I'm assuming it was something to do with this.
Fearing that my rings were bad, I did a compression test using a friends expensive tester that is known to be accurate and the results were 150 on all four( I think one being like 149)
I drove the car for a bit after trashing the boost controller and going back to 7psi and I am trying to lookout for the smell and I can't seem to smell it anymore so it possibly stopped, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
My question is basically what else can I trouble shoot? PCV? Head gasket? Or is that not in boost. All the threads I looked at were just people yelling at the original poster to do a compression test. I also know it's not due to too much oil as I always use the spec amount. I guess I could do a leakdown test but I want to open my options.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
