Hey everyone,

I am about to buy my first car However I can't decide what car to get. My choices:

1. 1991 Nissan 240sx SE
2. 1991 Acura Integra GS
3. 1991 Toyota Celica GT/S

I am looking for reliability, comfort, and also performance. In the future, I am thinking of mods so a car with a lot of available mods would be a plus.

celica or 240, depending on price.

Here they are about the same price, that is why I picked those.

Which is more reliable, the Celica or the 240sx? And which one is faster, handles better etc...

The 240 should outperform both of those...straight line and handling. Comfort and reliability I would think would be about the same between them.

Can you tell me some specs of the 240sx

like 0-100km/h

400m (1/4 mile)

LanceS13

0-60mph...which is pretty much 0-100kph...is about 7.9
1/4 mile is about 15.9-16.1. I believe the old 'Tegs and Celicas are mid 16's cars.

oh...and if you want hp and torque, it's\
155 hp
160 lb.ft. torque

Speedy2k

Hmm quite impressive. 155/160 hp/torque back in 91 is pretty nice. Does the fact that it is RWD also help performance?

ZeroGS14

but of course it helps performance...just think of it like this...isnt it a whole lot easier to push something then it is to pull something =D

I once drove a toyota celica turbo all-trac or something like that. i had never heard of one up untill the point i got to drive it. real nice car, it was an older celica, that's all i know. lol i'd be interested to learn more abou it though.

0-60 in 7.9 since when? I remember reading all the old road tests that it was closer to like mid to high 8s.

LanceS13
10-18-2001, 07:34 PM
You're thinking about the '89-'90 models...they had 140hp. '91-'98 all ran about 8 sec flat 0-60.

Speedy2k
10-18-2001, 09:50 PM
8secs isn't too shabby... without swapping engines how must faster can you make it?

PSI240SX had his turboed S14 running low 13's.
Basic bolt-ons, you can expect low 15's.

Thats fast Low 13's

So I would need to get that SR20DET engine to get to that performance?

Oh and check this out!

you wouldnt need a sr20det for that you can get that kind of performance on nos or on a turbo ka motor

PSI's is just the "stock" KA24DE...he's done alot of work to it. There's another guy running low 10's on a built turboed KA.

and I've seen the 'strawberry' conversion...not to keen on it myself

Oh that's good, how much does a turbo system cost anyway

89-90 are 8.8 seconds to 60 stock. Those are the recorded numbers, and what mine pulled before I started modding it.

I am probably going to get the 91 model, since it has a bit more hp.

Wow imagine what you can do with the SR20DET engine

Or just turbo your KA. If you look back on posts we wrote poetry about our cars.

POETRY!! You have got to love something alot to get a bunch of wrench headish guy to do some shit like that.

You won't see any Toyota or Acura owners doing that.

ZeroGS14

lol I'll never write poety about my car...it simply is poetry's incarnate =D haha just being full of myself...don't mind me =P

Can the KA engine handle a turbo? Or is it going to die very fast

LanceS13
10-19-2001, 10:20 AM
The '95+ KA's are supposed to be able to handle about 6-7 psi. The old KA's have weaker internals. Mark (WeST) and PSI could probably help you out more. I personally plan on a CA18DET swap sometime in the future.

A friend of mine has a 94 teg, and i thought about getting one until i test drove a 240. I used to be a valet, so i've driven several celica's as well. I like the 240 the most, and if you're going to mod the car - go with the 240 or the integra. there's tons of parts for both (maybe more for the teg) and celica aftermarket parts are harder to come by.

Bottom line man, test drive them all !
we can talk your ear off (or type i guess) about stats and numbers, but the feel of the car is what it comes down to. That's what made me decide on my 240.

Archangel, thanks for the info

I am already looking through trader.ca (listing of used/new cars here in Toronto, CANADA)

Gonna pick me up a 91-93 SE

the turbo kits i've seen usually run from $3300-$4500 w/out installation. if ur going to get a 91-93 it would probably be better to get the sr20det b/c it's hard to find 91-93's w/ a good "healty" engine w/ low milage, around here at least.

Speedy2k

How much are the SR engines? And is it a straight bolt-on?

Oh can anyone tell me the exact specs on the SR engine. How much HP/Torque etc...

LanceS13

Another reason you might not want to turbo the older KA's is because before '95, they had weaker internals. Speedy, check out www.unstable-hybrids.com and maybe send them an email or something...I'm sure you can find some info there.
