View Full Version : Can I add my own fuse to the fuse box?

I'm currently rewiring my radiator fans, and I need to install a 30 amp fuse.

I want to install it in the factory fuse box to keep a clean look, but I don't know if I can do that.

There is a slot that's unused, but it only has an input terminal, and the output terminal (the metal terminal that the fuse slips into) is empty. Can I just insert my own terminal into there and run it to a wire? If so, how?

Has anybody done this before?

Any input would be appreciated,

thanks.

On the main fuse box there are typically a few fuse slots that aren't used.

On my first 240 I threw a fuse in there and just ran the female spade connectors into it like it was meant to be.

I had an extra fuse box at the time but all the little fuse "clusters" will come out of the fuse box if you push the plastic clip, then you remove a thin plastic strip from the side and it allows you to de-pin or re-pin the fuses. I used an empty fuse slot as well as an empty relay slot and ran all the wiring for my fans, looks much better than a relay hanging in the engine bay. Good luck!

we did this on my brothers truck (d22 frontier with s13 blacktop sr20)
it had a few empty spots and we needed to add another fuse.
worked out fine.
