Ladies and Gents,

I recently replaced my starter because the obvious...it took quite a few turns of the key to start the car. I did the typical thing most people would do and just replaced the starter. Come to find out it wasn't the starter because it still has the issue. When I turn the key there is no response except for the relay noise. Eventually it will start of I turn the key enough times. Could the relay be bad or is there something else that may be holding me back like the ignition? Any help is appreciated, I start a new job on Monday and would cry if this held me back. Thanks.

You relocated battery to the trunk? If so it's a pretty common issue

Is the battery in good shape and are the battery terminals clean?

also check your grounds... i was having a similar issue and it was my main ground that was loose.

Check the thin signal wire going to your starter solenoid

Ok I'll check these out today thanks guys.

Battery connection is solid. I've noticed the car is more likely to start if i press the clutch in all the way three times and then start. Maybe it's the clutch button thingy =o

Did you figure out the problem? I'm having the same issue. It takes any where's from 5-20 turns just to get the car to start. Every turn is just a click. I got my starter check at autozone and it passed? Battery is relocated so maybe it's my ground??

@h240

It recently has been happening to me,(last 3-4 months now) and i believe it is ground/amperage related. The starter takes a lot of CCA to turn over and even with extra grounding im thinking my battery might be dying or i need larger gauge + wire..
Not my daily driver so its not that annoying to me but I do want to chase it down.

So perhaps we can get a better idea of what is going on....when you put the clutch in and attempt to start the car...nothing happens? No cranking whatsoever?

Few things to begin with.

A. Have a friend check voltage at starter when you turn the key to start. No power immediately means you have an issue with wiring between starter/battery/ignition switch or a bad ignition switch.

B. By hitting clutch 3 times...is your clutch safety switch still in use? For testing purposes, take the plug off the switch and put a paper clip in to rule out that isn't the problem.

My bet is on the ignition switch.

ok so let my give full details. When my car chooses not to start i turn the igntion to start and the power from the radio ,cluster all turn off but when i release the power to everything returns. It just makes one "click" , then lost of power. like i said it takes any where from 2 -30 key turns to get it to start.
-replace the ignition switch
-starter has been tested
-Battery is relocated in trunk of hb and grounded to the center where spare tire goes.
-not the starter relay, thats bypassed.
-idk what else to test or look for a ground im stumped. like i said its so random when it doesn't want to start

Did you try bypassing the clutch switch or interlock relay?

Did you try bypassing the clutch switch or interlock relay?

yea i did that, its the blue switch inside the engine bay by the passenger fender , right? if so yes no need for the clutch.
