my car die on me several times >_<

man, for some reasons my car die on me several times today. It happened recently and i have no idea what is going on with it. It runs fine but it reach to a point that the car start to choke while it's running. then the car die when it either stop or moving (i realized that the rpm is kinda lower than it used to be when it's running). I have to restart the car several times before it start running again. I searched and most people experienced this were driving a 5 spd but my car is auto. Anyways, does anyone know what is happening to my car? Because it happens more often and become dangerous for me or people on the street. any input will appreciate. thz for looking.

btw, my car is a 95' 240sx with stock ka and some mods like intake, header and exhaust. Also replaced the rotor, cap, plugs, oil filter and spark plug wires a while back. actually almost a year now if that matter.

change your fuel filter...that fixed a similar problem for me

Check fuel pressure...it may be the pump dying.

to run a car needs air fuel and spark... so start checking.

air : air filter, hoses, etc
fuel : fuel pump, fuel filter, hoses, related electrical connections, etc
spark : rotor, cap, plug wires, spark plugs, etc

it would help if you told us what kind of maintenance you've kept up with on your car.

for some reason, on my first post, i said oil filter but what i really means was the fuel filter. i changed the fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, rotor and cap for under 10k miles (changed those when i first got my car :D), also oil change every 3k miles. fuel line to the filter still fine, no cracks or leaks at all. Checked every hoses and they are fine and secured. just clean the air filter while i changed the oil about 200 miles ago (using injen cai). havent check on the fuel pump yet, any idea how to check the fuel pump? the car runs fine but it'll choke for some reason like i mentioned above (the first time happened was about a month ago, and it's happen more often >_<).

oh, a guy who work over autozone (i know they might be wrong, but it worth a try though :D) said it might be the timing chain. i'm not sure about that but sounds reasonable since i didn't have it check when i get the car. but will the timing make the engine choke during acceleration or deceleration? thz

Check your mafs. Jiggle the plugs and see if that causes any change in your situation. Next thing to look at is your injectors, and if you've an oscillating idle, then look for a vac leak. Got a better description of your situation?

Okay first of all, NEVER go to Autozone and ask them questions about ANY car!! Those guys are such a joke. I've been in there to buy various little things from time to time and it seems like everytime I go into an Autozone, there's always some poor schmoe that's trying to get help, now we're talking simple stuff like how to hook up a battery, or which kinds of tools are needed for which job. And I swear those guys screw the customers up so much more than they ever were. So just advice don't go there for help unless you want to fuck up your car and get some totally useless info that will have you replacing your pistons for fuel leak.

Anyways, to help to out, NO I'm sure it's not you're timing chain. Does it rattle or clank around that area? And timing chains don't typically wear down, they just break and then you're fucked. If it was messed up you're car just wouldn't run. That's like saying a human body has bad blood causing it to run poorly...uhh, yeah. See how it's not related to your problem?

You mentioned that you repalced the plugs wires cap & rotor, well pop your cap off and make sure the rotor is stil working properly, check to see if its loose or broken from improper mounting. Also check your plug wire connections, make sure they're pushed in all the way. Like previously mentioned cars need air, fuel and spark. So start checking those before you pull off your timing chain.

another thing to check is your fuel hoses going in and out of your fuel filter. you should replace them anyway; it costs a couple bucks and takes about 5 minutes. why replace the filter and not the hoses?

sometimes you can't actually see the holes in them without taking them off and flexing them a bit. that was the case with my hoses. ran fine (but bogged a bit) and suddenly it didnt want to start. couldn't see a leak until i took everything apart.
