Well i finished installing my obx race header correctly because before i didnt have the right o2 sensor to fit. Its on a 96 240sx 5sp with injen cai and apexi n1 dual. Driving daily is much more smoother and responsive and on the freeway in fifth gear pulls real hard. What i noticed is that before i use to have this surge of power after 3500 rpm but now the power is throughout the rpm band which i wanted. The sound is noticeably louder but not too bad once your cruising but it sounds so nice. The only problem is that the egr doesnt really quite fit but i just use foil tape to wrap around the egr just in case. Overall the header bolts on pretty well and so far no flaws that i see. Im hoping to run my car at the track with this new mod.

Just an update.
It's been a few mounths scence I installed an obx header on my 92.
Now the egr is recieving no backpressure.
Don't know why but now it throws the check engine light about 2 min after I reset the ecu.
Also after two or so weeks I noticed that The mani stud closest to the front of the car had broken. Mabey I over tightened the nuts. I couldn't get a torque wrinch on all the nuts but one.
Just something to think about.

seriously though, it's good to hear good things about one of the few available headers for the KA

first of all, why does an EGR need backpressure? all the egr does/is, is a valve that opens up to allow exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. unless the pipe is closed, the egr should be recieving gasses from your exhaust.

second, the egr is a royal pain in the ass. how can you install a header and want to keep the egr? for smog? for what? you cant take your car to a smog check station out here in CA with a header, it wont pass. the egr is crap.. i would have capped off the EGR port a LONG time ago and put a block plate on the back.

BUT, since you plan on keeping it. know, that when you increase your exhaust flow.. (header, exhaust, etc) from what I've heard.. the BPT (which controls the egr) acts all finicky. All I know is that for the life of me, I couldnt get the EGR system to work once I had intake, headers, and exhaust. From everything Ive read, the BPT/EGR system needs some backpressure to operate properly. too little backpressure and it doesnt work right.

personally, i ditched all the logic and trashed the system long ago because it did nothing more than complicate my life and make it miserable. I hate that damn pipe in the back of the motor, its impossible to access and is always rusted on with exhaust crud. SO, goodbye egr.. goodbye aiv, goodbye charcoal canister -- hello empty engine bay. ECU codes? shit, ditch the check engine light while yer at it.. dont need that crap. want to check your engine? pop your hood, make sure its still there.

seriously, make room for important stuff like oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, stuff that monitors the motor.. not all that useless emissions junk. just keep your cat and you're smog-compatible (enough)

I have the same header on my car...and I like them too. The EGR tube was a PITA...I got it in there just enough. Since my car was automatic...I was dying to shift to a fifth gear after I'm doing 80+ at 3.5k rpms. Now my car is 5-spd...but I have yet to get it running. :/

psychedelicbeats, that 15.74 is with only intake and exhaust just to let you know. That time was with a 2.4 60 ft which is horrible for a rwd car. Im pretty sure i can hit low 15s with traction and my new race header.

am i the only one who noticed that "race header" and "egr" should never be used in the same thread?

hehe seriously.. why would anyone install a header and KEEP the crappy egr... hmm

I'm sorry. It's just tube version of the stock mani. connects to the cat. I haven't seen a good dyno pull on them yet.

I love my OBX on the freeway too. Passing power!!! you can also blip the gas and surge forward.
