Ive owned my s13 for about 2 years now and my temp gauge has always been a little higher than the middle. ive replaced a majority of the coolant hoses because of them breaking in the last 2 months while driving. so ive overheated it a few times

I even bought a dual core isis radiator to see if that would help with cooling
but didnt help.
I was curious if anyone has happened to anyone else. is this normal?
or maybe my headgasket is going? or a bad temp gauge sensor. my clutch fan seems fine

Thanks!
sorry for all the questions

Replaced the thermostat?

Did you bleed the air out?

Seems like if you keep the car idealing for a bit, it might overheat.

Yeah ive replaced it before. doesnt seem to have air. If i leave it at idle the temp gauge is in the middle but when i drive it goes up a little like the picture. The car drives fine. I daily drive it. im just curious if this happens to anyone else

You can't really go off the stock guage as a true indicator of the car running abnormally hot-unless it's in the red lol.

My stock gauge will show the needle at just above the halfway mark, but my defi temp gauge will display about 85*C or 185*F which is fine. The stock electric fans come on at around 94*C(not sure if this is the same for s13)

Honestly iv had my ka for almost a year now and i drive tht dam thing every were,
And my temp shows just like yours and typically stays thier until i get on the freeway it drops slightly.
I have changed water pump, thermostat, coolantswitch, and did a lil flush on coolant
And its still kinda the same but just feels smoother at idle.

My infrared thermometer on my top hose shows 160ish* when my gauge is at the halfway mark. I don't trust it, can't wait to get an aftermarket in there.

did you ever replace the temp sensor?

From what I've read the crappy stock KA temperature gauge either reads cold, up to temp, or overheating. Anything inbetween is a fluke.

Maybe get an aftermarket gauge.

My friend changed out his FMIC to a hmic on his sr a while back and it had some sort of effect on his gauge. It revealed more surface area of the radiator for air to flow through and in turn dropped his temp needle down to almost a quarter of the gauge. Given it's the digital cluster and an sr, maybe it's effects are different; but in the end, it's a ka sensor with a ka cluster.

Get an aftermarket water temp gauge and mount the sensor in the upper radiator hose. The stock water temp gauge on most Nissans won't move until about 215 anyone. So once you see the stock gauge move your already screwed.
