Ok so ive done some searching on this (not a huge amount) and see lots of different opinions in different places on whether or not its ok to weld an sr20 crankshaft..Seems to be lots of technical procedure involved according to some and can easily be done wrong from what i can tell..i took the crank to a machinist who said i would be lucky if the spun journal cleaned up to 30 and i would have to recondition the rod ..i impulsively bought acl race bearings without really knowing what i would need so my question is which of these 3 options would be the most practical for my a mostly stock motor with a t28 on 7 pounds(and a slow budget)?..1:have the crank welded/rod conditioned by an auto machine shop to fit the bearings i already have...:2 buy a reconditioned crank and bearing set...:3 grind the bad journal and order undersize bearings...and as far as the rod goes should i consider replacing it or will machining be just as good?

if you are just re-building the OEM bottom end, I would source a new block before going through all of that. If anything, you could buy a new crankshaft if you had to.

Yes it seems to me there wouldnt be much to gain financially by welding the crank and ive been told by several auto machine shops its a bad idea so im no longer considering that..most likely going to plan for a new crank and bearing set..im not great at shopping for this stuff on the internet so if anyone has a link for a reliable kit thats a good price that would be awesome..so far i just keep seeing this jds performance refurbished crank for 500$ everything else is a crazy price
