So do i align the crank pulley with pin on tdc or 20*btdc?... i got it on compression stroke and lined it on tdc started and when i went to set timing its at 5*atdc and runs like shit. Now i set the crank pulley on 20*btdc compressiin stroke . And runs way better.. but srill outta timed. And yes i did countless searches on this subject any help appreciated thanks

Crank pulley is always set at 0* on TDC. Depending on which engine it is, the marks are different. I know SR and and RBs are different IIRC. SR 0* is 2nd line from the left, RB25 was first line on the left.

You have a comprehension problem and it's making your explanation confusing!
So I have questions to try to clear up the confusion.
What engine? What are you trying to do?
It's sound like your installing the crank pulley, no?
If you are setting ignition timing BTDC, you need a timing light, do you have one?
If you are using a consult program, along with your light, it's not clear. Are you?

If you are at TDC, and install the CAS for an SR20DET setting the CAS per FSM, you will be close to ignition timing of 15deg BTC, and you use the timing light to verify 15deg in timing\base idle mode. Pretty much the same for the other engines too.

So you set ignition timing after you set the dizzy or the cas, with a light!

Crank is set at TDC, ignition timing is set to 15 before.
