for those who have replaced their hatch.... ($?)

i bought a new hatch a while ago and i'm about to start calling for estimates to get it installed (painted, glass installed, etc). I'm wondering what anyone else who had this done paid to have it done.

so tell me! :)

I got mine used and installed it myself. Painted it the same time I painted the rest of the car. For a gray car like yours, you can paint the hatch and it shouldn't stand out to much as far as the fading of your stock paint is concerned. The antenna and wiper motor wires just unplug from the hatch wires but I think the rear defroster you have to cut and splice. I've never done a window before (mine came with it), I think you lay it down and put that sticky sealant tube thingy around it, maybe thats worth paying someone to do though.

If you pull the headliner down at the rear drivers side corner, you will find the plug for the defroster. The other plugs are also under the body paneling, and headline. There is no need to cut anything.

I bouhgt mine at a junkyard from a black car, and slapped it on the car as is. Cleaned it up, and waxed it, and you can't even tell a difference.

I think I paid maybe $100.

Painting the hatch should cost about $200. that's what I paid to have a bumper painted on my old VW.

Well I have an SE that had the ungly stock foam wing so I just searched for a black wingless hatch. I did the swap by myself so it can be done but I would suggest having a friend come over and help cause that darn thing is heavy.

O BTW be carefull I managed to break a rear quarter window in the process. Thats what I get for trying to do a beauty mod to my car, from now on its function or nothing :fruit:

i just bought a hatch, my color for 100, swapped it on..similiar to sykikchimp..gave it a lil compound, coat of wax, new hatch...easier and best way imo
