View Full Version : Stainless Steel Greddy DD, New Exaust

Thanks to Jason from this board i was able to get the Greddy DD full stainless.. the exhaust looks pretty insane.. its basically like running open downpipe except that its little more quiet with it on. With silencers its quieter then Apexi N1. But i'm sure they do hurt performance.. Since the whole exhaust is straight through from the turbo back to the end of the car it backfires, reeks on fuel, and you can hear the turbo working through the exhaust! Still havent had a chance to hit WOT but i'll wait for daytime to do so.. i'm sure it will sound pretty damn illegal.. but at this point the car is so illegal thats its beyond repair, another little mod wont hurt a bit :naughtyd:

if you get a chance could you post a few pics of the exhaust on your car. I love that exhaust just never see them enough.

haha, DDs are loud, even on a SR.

speaking of loud, and po-lice, where is my silencer? grrr

Johny5
06-22-2004, 12:42 PM
loud, do not give a fack! but if someone were to custom pipe one for say 2.5" for n/a ka, would it be decent without MUCH power loss and not be as loud as the (what size i'm assuming it is) 3" greddy version?

Old S13, well put mang! hehehehehehe but then again i already got a "state referee" ticket.. it simply cant get any worst.. yes its a lovely exhaust.. a totally different look i'm not used to yet.. but nonetheless looks much better then N1 in my opinion. Its not just loud without silencers.. sounds like my R1 w/the gutted OEM pipe. To those that can get their hands on a DD and even thought about putting one on a KA cross that idea ASAP.. its beyond lound on an SR and sounds furiously illegal hahaahahaha.. somehow i got two sets of silencers though.. i'll post some pics soon.. i took some before it was mounted on the car but not with it on.. waiting on a sunny day.. socal aint sunny like it used to be.

ohh yeah and the po-lice aint got nothing on me.. yeah right.. hehehehehehe

the DD is one of the loudest exhausts, I believe it has to do with the rear pipes and how they enlarge, that design probably amplifies the exhaust sound. I was debating whether or not to get the DD, I ended up going with RSR. Actually, I was going to get the RSR EXmag and ended up with the GTII. I wasnt a big fan of the big chrome exhaust but I figure I'de give it a try. I ended up liking the sound, fitment, and design.. but I ditched the chrome and powdercoated it black.

Personally, I think all exhausts should come black.

I agree.. i really like the design of this exhaust but the noise level is just too much! Not for me of course.. i would really hate to get it heat coated black although it would still look really nice.. but if thats something i have to do later down the road the so be it, but we'll see how it goes.. btw anyone going to that drift day 17?

got any video clips of it? or sound clips?

i was thinking, it would be cool to cut the end of the exhaust where it flares out, and weld on some equal sized pipes to just finish the exhaust.. and not have it flare out like it does. i am sure that would cut down a lot of the noise and also make hte unit look more low key. oh well.. its still a nice exhaust.

my exhaust is black now. not from powdercoating ;)

i'm going to DD17, should be fun. hopefully i have enough tires, and my car doesn't break down, and i can enjoy the entire weekend.

so is the gtII much louder than the ex-mag? Old_S13, you're still KA? ... or are you SR? I'm this close {--} to buying an ex-mag, but I just keeping going back and looking at the gtII.

I'm going to powder coat it black too. Actually no matter what exhaust I get is going to get coated black. I'm not into getting harrassed. Just thinking about driving through some no name town on a road trip and having the cops pulling you over to fuck with you doesn't seem to excite me too much. :mepoke:

Bah! the volume of my exhaust is nothing compared to the stupid farty CRX's that seem to dominate my area. But then we have no noise ordinances here in eastern washington :rawk:

Oh... and like I've said a billion times. If you put this exhaust on your N/A engine, you're a tool, and I hope u like cops :P

ohhh shit!!!! Yoshi, mucho thanks for posting the pics! When i was looking at the DD for the very first time although it did not have an exhaust can it did some with that resonator which i'm sure helps out a whole lot.. since they version i have is stainless steel, i guess not too many of those around.. i shall post pics tonite so you can see my piping, lol!

thats it, i'm having my exhaust shop make that in 2.5" for the n/a ka hotness. can you give measurements of exit pipes? they look 2.5-3" but just to make sure.

WTF? That looks nothing like mine!
Notice how my pipes go almost all the way to the resonator? I don't get it, is it called the DD2 or anything? Cuz obviously the only similarity is that the tips are polished and they are two pipes at the end... odd...

hybrid_eg
06-29-2004, 10:20 AM
yep, thats the first thing i noticed as well, also minus the fact that this one has no resonator of any sort.. if i could post a few more pics on zilvia i have taken pics of the weds where tips are going together into one. As far as quality is concerned it definitely top notch so what type of DD is this exactly? Not quite sure, perhaps track use "only" lol.. Its very very straight through w/almost no bends at all and same piping size as on my N1. I just gotta figure out a way to raise it even more as it rubs a little exactly like my N1 did.. they car is just simply too low... Yoshi, looking at your pics from the rear w/your DD on, its positioned exactly the same way and ground clearance seems to be identical as well.

Anyone know how i can host more then 1 pic on zilvia.net? Let me know.. when i attempt to attach more then 1 it tells me i exceeded my quota.. ?

Tks all! Btw, i'll take some pics of it on the car this weekend..

nope. not a trust dd.
i would put money on the fact that it is either
a. Dart Izumi Jr.
or
b. one of the many possible companies or shops that makes the same looking design.
i am leaning toward B, because i do believe that for the s13, the Izumi exhaust angles up at the end pipes right after the 2 hangers.

also, who is this Jason, and how can he help me? :)
i have been wanting this exhust for quite some time.

i dont think it is dart izumi cause this is what it looks like

Brian
06-29-2004, 11:45 AM
i dont see a big difference between the 2.
besides the slight angle on the DIJ unit (and the fact that you postedt he not full stainless model)

hybrid_eg
06-29-2004, 12:58 PM
It looks very similar to the pic you posted, besides that mine is SS, the bolts, nuts, and gasket look the same.. gold in color, but tips on mine seem to extend further from the hangers.. So if its not DD i quite honestly dont care, it has the look i had been going for, the quality seems to be much better then the N1, and i'm sure it will outperform the N1. With silencers you can totally drive it, without them on hmm... sure you can! I wish i could have made that meet this past Saturday but my bro had to fugg it up for me.

Well, Dart Izumi it is! heehheehhe :rawk:
I'll try to find a place that can host pics without reducing pic quality if image is larger then what the website allows then you can see it upclose.. but i'm quite happy with it.. piping is huge and it seems very straight through hehehehe... we'll see what socal po-po's think about it soon enough. :D

i had a dd on my s13 with blacktop..no cat or anything. Its the best..you can hear everything..its really grunty..reason why it is so loud is becuz it doesnt have a muffler its a resonator..as far as the dd look alike that must be beyond loud..

Was the dart izumi on Drift club 2000, when they are showing some s13 parts, because the exhaust looked like that.

I wish i could have it.

Host them on www.we-todd-did-racing.com, its decent.

I actually have a pic on todd-did but they dont support zilvia.net so i cannt display the pics here.. i paid the price you would for a DD and the best part is that i did not have to wait more then a week and of course it was brand new.

i have a titanium attain exhaust which is mostly straight through n1 style 3 inch pipe 4.5 inch tip. That has a muffler on it and its on an na ka right now. my car is as loud as if not somewhat louder than a harley with straights pounding down the road. its really bad, i put the silencer on but its still way too loud. Im going to be going rb25 so the turbo should quiet it down but i mean damn on na, no way! that exhaust will just be downright obnoxious. you dont want a 4 mile cop radius of attention when your doing things you shouldnt be in your car ;)

boro240

its not dart izumi. the welds on the DI are much better, and the hangers are attatched differently. those are the two most obvious differences.

hybrid_eg

i have pics of the welds, look really really nice.. honestly i dont know what it is.. but i'm going to find out from the person i got it from and let you guys know.. either way i'd have this anyday over the N1 a.k.a. rocket launcher.

DD = 80mm & no muffler = LOUD even on a SR/other turbo'd car = even louder on an N/A engine = "look at me cops!" (if you have noise ordinances where you live)

It's also very obviously a performance exhaust as it's very noticable both audibly and visually, which can be good or bad, depending who's looking at it (see above) :D

Funny, I have a DD on my NA S14 and it's not that loud. If anything its very rumbly and deep. By no means is it a popo attention getter.

hybrid_eg
06-30-2004, 09:45 AM
Hahaha... well as Yoshi had mentioed its loud beyond even w/an SR.. especially the DD look a like that i have now :-) When i sold my Apexi N1 i just had open downpipe for few days (just drove it around the garage to re-park) So when i put the new muff on, believe me or not, without silencers i'd say roughly 10% less louder then just having no muffler at all. :naughtyd:

At this point i dont even care about the noise level, but the muffler does rub a little around the flange area since it is sitting pretty low, so i'm going to have my friend over the weekend raise it up as much as possible and fab whatever is needed to get maximum clearance so that i can start driving this shiznit daily..

then obviously your definition of loud differs from mine
(note I never said anything about tone, high pitched/farty does not imply loud. The tone of the DD is half the reason I bought it)
