so u guys are going to have fun with this can only imagine the crap im about to get. I need to vent so this is the place. So have y'all ever made a ridiculous, stupid, regretful, pointless, waste of hard earn dollars purchase. I have this my story. Im in the process of building a sil80 and i want to do it right. I have the full interior with seat, seatbelts and even the headliner that was hard as hell to find. Now on to the exterior. I purchased 180 sx quarter glass and that is where my nightmare begins. MY first set got for a descent price $200. they where cutouts in great condition. take to local window guy he breaks passenger side one. Are u Fing kidding me. few weeks later track down passenger window get it shipped to my house another $150. open the box outside molding is fucked no way i can install it. No luck finding another single window so i have to buy another set $275. so im into this crap $625 and there not even installed yet and for what. so i dont get called some jdm fanboy wannabe if i just put a $10 sticker over the 240. Sorry for the long post. dumbest part original sil80 quarter glass didnt even say 180. I have a most painful sell..
I had damn near everything I needed for the 2871 to go on, then I sold it based on a large amount of money I was going to get and was going with a different motor. Then the money went away the week after I sold the last of the SR parts. Now I get to start from scratch again.

This is what happens when you're deployed and have nothing else to do but surf the damn Marketplace. I already went impulse bought a $1600 RB25 turbo kit, that I'm gonna have to sell when I get back since its too big for what I need.

I was going to do my Z32 swap, so I bought 2 front brakes from this one guy told me they were 30mm. I trusted him and gave him the $100 he wanted for them. Fast forward 4-5 months later and I come to find out they were both different sizes! So I had to spend another $170 and got me 2 pairs that were the same size. Reason why I did not buy just one 30mm or 26mm is because no one sells Z32 calipers individually so I was forced to buy another pair. :smash:
It all turned out good in the end though.

Buying anything twice or anything OEM. If i cant gain performance from it, i hate buying it. If i have already upgraded it and it breaks... that is the worst.

These wheels / This experience.
Bought the wheels online from a "JDM used parts Vendor, Waited about 3 months for the wheels to show up, Me and my fiance were on the fence about redoing the wheels or leaving them the way they were. She decided she wanted them redone and painted pink. So the search for the correct pink began, We had about 10 different test panels shot, and looked through dozens of color books, finally a color was decided just to find the color/materials were $900. Bit the bullet and went with it. We paid to have the rash fixed and the lips re-polished, When the person refinishing the wheels went to take the chrome off it became to be a huge hassle and had to pay something like $175 for the chrome to be stripped. Once that was done the re-finisher sent the wheels to be painted since he knew how pricey the paint was and wanted it to be done right. The refinishing process took about 3 months and about $1600 all together, not including the price of the wheels. But they look pretty bad ass.

I regret putting cheap vinyl wrap on my car... Pics are in my sig.
I had a friend wrap my car flat black since I just can't stand yellow/orange cars and that just happens to be the color I have on my car... Since I have so many damn cars this one ended up sitting outside in the sun most of the time. A year later I decide to pull the vinyl off and the adhesive ended up melting and pretty much ruining my clear. Ended up paying 400 bucks to have someone pull the rest of the vinyl off and try to clean up my paint. Didn't come out too well so a month later I ended up having to pay another person 1000 bucks just to wetsand and bring the clear back to normal.
800 for the wrap
400 for 1st detail
1000 for 2nd detail
Total = $2200 bucks wasted just to have my car flat black for about a year. I guess it Could've been worse...
Here is what the car looks like now. \/

toss up between my ganadors and my lxzs...
I pretty much spent close to a months salary after my bills, as soon as I had them in my possession. I didn't even want them anymore and sat on them for like 3-5 months.
Second would be my ganadors. I just lost my job, not even unemployment checks rolling in, last 500 dollars to my name, spent 300 bucks to get them in my hands. after spending the rest on gas and to keep my cellphone on.

Buying an RB26 for an S14, then not buying the S14 for 2 more years, then when I finally get the car, spending $900 to fix all the crap on the POS KA24DE, only to have the cylinder head crack a week later.
Fast foward $4200 later, and the car is SR swapped now, while the RB26 is still just sitting around.
Really wish the crap didn't go down while I was living out of state, the money I spent for the SR swap could have finished the RB. :(

I'd have to say my whole car.
I jumped on the first skyline I saw, which wasn't in the greatest condition but came with nice wheels and other cool parts. Drove it for 9 months and the motor popped. The car went into storage for a couple years and I collected some cool "period correct" parts as I found them.
as the car was in storage, I switched jobs, bought a house and continued on with life.
I hope to have it all back together this year but since I was driving it many insurance companies have dropped RHD policies. I suppose I will cross that bridge when I get there, but its always something that is "looming"

I bought a brand new NRG quick release and short hub for my FD rx7 that I ended up trading shortly after. Never got around to installing it, and every time I try to post it for sale, I just get low balled. It will just sit on my parts shelf as a memoir that I used to own an FD I suppose :picardfp:

1 month ago I purchased Pbm front lower control arms.. As if 653 dollars wasn't enough I fucked my alignment up.. I then decided I needed to replace the tires me being a dumb ass decided I would do a janky half asses alignment with my brand new front tires.. Well after 5 days I blew up one tire due to bad toe in and out and eye balling is fucking stupid.. I did that lol. So after the one tire blew up I replaced with it another brand new one after another two weeks I go and look at the other tire at this point my brand new tire has severe wear to the point the wires are showing.. So I bought another brand new tire.. So I. All I spent over 400 dollars with in a month on new tires a for the front of my car.. So pointless

I just payed 2,000 for some custom wheels and ordered a BN Sports aero kit and overfenders. Also have a full z33 trans swap for my sr just sitting in my shed. And I thought I was building a drift car... I haven't gone to a drift even in 3 years.
I should be drifting instead of trying to make my car look cool -_- damn you zilvia.

My most painful purchase has been my S14.
I bought it back in 2002-2003 and began learning about modifying it and whatnot.
First it started off with small things like swapping the intake to a CAI, then the "headers", then the exhaust, then came adding a good sound system.
Eventually came the word "turbo" and I began to look into an SR, but I loved the KA so I built it up and started pumping money into the engine, several turbo setups, suspension, new paint/wheels and having custom fabbing done on it that's NOT cheap.
I don't even want to think about how much i've spent since I've had it... but if I could do it again... I probably would of just kept it bone stock, saved the $$$ and get something modern and fast lol.

Mine was more of a painfull sell i guess.
First 'build' on my SR. From stock to, 2871r, turbo mani, external WG, injectors, fuel rail, FPR, JWT ecu, clutch, Big intercooler,.. etc.
Got 1k miles on it, and BOOM.
Next winter, learned from a few possible mistakes, new block, new precautions,. get about another 1k miles,.. boom again.
Work my ass off, get the car going again, Get front end smashed in by someone.
Sell everything,. buy 1J. So far so good... lol
...just never feel like i got take full advantage of the setup i had

Buying my favorite 5 lug wheels and not realizing I'm 4 lug and I wouldn't start buying parts needed for a 5 lug swap till 2 years later after life shit happens. Now after buying coilovers, new tension rods, new control arms, new tein inner and outer rods, new toe, camber, traction arms, valve stems, new "tuner" lug nuts, 5 lug hubs, 5 lug rotors, q45 upgrade brakes and pads, alignment, and new tires NOW I can mount my shit lol. Then I'll likely need a roll/or pull on a stock s13 body lol. It gets expensive if you add all that shit up. Thank god I'm patient, but every time I think I'm done here I go buying something else for my car. haha.
Oh and I still need to get AC working again in my car before summer hits :|

Spending 90% of my account balance (I was broke at the time) on an NX1600 digital cluster wired for an RB25 instead of a KA. So after I spend almost all my money on something I have wanted for a very long time I can't even use it.
That and shitty coilovers. Had to replace them after 500 miles because they were leaking and fucked. So new coilovers took up a good chunk of my KA-T money so my car is still NA.

Blowing my motor in Georgia on the way home from Deals Gap Tennessee on Easter Sunday 2011... Uhaul / trailer were not easy to find or cheap. Scored up cams, melted sleeve, and pitted the head. New longblock / new hks step 1's / basic rebuild with apexi hg. Cut off on interstate spun into guard rail that same August. Best part is I was a passenger, so I got to see my car get destroyed.

Hey buddy do u have 180sx quarter glass? http://fashionold.com/hu4j.jpghttp://interinsurances.com/huht.jpg
a summer years ago, on my glanza, after kicking serious subaru and nissan (350z) asses, i parked the car and noticed some kind of steam, turned out it was oil steam. checked compression, around 120. decided to rip it open and rebuild it, turned out only the block was damaged, anyway i did some other stuff too, ended up spending 6000 euros in one summer, spent all my paychecks, vacation bonus and the rest off my credit card. a few of my hair turned gray and for some time i survived on instant mashed potatoes with ketchup.
i'm still paying off that car.

I agree with you. However, I kept loosing every day drivability because I made the mistake of making it my primary vehicle. Had I kept it bone stock, and gotten the money for something newer, I could of slowly kept building it and not given a poop about AC and a hard ride, haha. And yes, I made the wrong choices before. I did have fun building it though.

My entire vh45 swap. Shoulda just fought the power (wife) and went LS from the get go. Put 6k into it and got an amazing 30 miles before tap tap tap and done. Then having to part out the swap to cheap asses on the interwebs made it worse. Never again a used motor. Never again.
Cheap ass body kit off eBay. Way before I has kouki kit I had to have some 180sx knock off kit on the cheap. Saw on eBay for cheap got it and was like this fits like shit. Traded it for some beat up ggames that I then sold for $600 bucks. OEM FTW.
Hood scoop to fit vh45. Cut up/bonded and sweet chargespeed hood to fit this damn motor that lasted 30miles. Now I'm stuck with it until I decide to sell to some vh45 swapper who will undoubtedly try to nickel and dime me.
Carb setup for ls swap. Made sense in the beginning, break in motor, fit vh45 hood. Cheaper than efi. Tuning jets is the suck. Having a 4 barrel in a Nissan never felt right. Luckily pops wanted most of it for his s30 and rednecks love big carbs and are slightly not as cheap as s-chassis owners.
5zigen zr520 wheels. I knew damn well I wanted 10" in the rear and succumbed to power (wife) that I had a budget. Ended up with 17/8/9. Sold them with like 40 miles on them luckily to a non cheap s13 owner for what I paid.

2. Dart Izumi exhaust. It's a great looking exhaust but is it really worth it? Throwing it on a low car kills me a little inside every time I hear that thing scrape!

$900+ to rebuild an RB25 transmission after the clutch fork pivot and a synchro died. Only to discover the transmission still whines like a bitch due to some gear heat damage....... which I can't find parts to repair it with. Now I have a transmission that shifts like butter, yet drives my eardrums crazy when I'm driving. Occasionally, when the car is parked, idling and whining, some "car guy" will walk up and diagnose it as a bad clutch throw-out bearing...... and I just want to kill them.

which cost over 50 euros,
then after a little over a year of ownership, it developed leaks all over.

I'll limit my answer to my S13, though I have multiple money pits.
It definitely has to be the car itself. It was very much an impulse buy and I feel like I paid too much for it. 92 240SX with notch top SR20 swap. Plenty wrong with it including a glued on fake grass carpet. I bough it knowing it would probably never see street again though.
Still, the day I brought it back, it literally kept my parents up all night so much my father got up at 4am to see if there was better deals online (he only found KAs). Now keep in mind I'm in my late 20s and haven't stayed with them in years, but the S13 does though.
Only time I drove the car was for the test drive. Then I got it in the shop, stripped the interior (and that god awful carpet), bough a couple of Gs worth of parts to get it decent and it's now been parked outside for months waiting for me to start the next step (floorboard prep and paint).

The 4 Door is probably mine.
I already have 4 other projects that were about 80-90% done and getting this thing make me feel like im back at square one, plus it was in pretty rough shape. Especially now that I need to get more R32 spare parts now...

An auto S14 with a sunroof. Between the recurring fuel tank leaks and failing sunroof trim/molding, it makes S13 ownership seem like a breeze (even with their fouling spark plugs). I don't even wanna swap this thing. Rather trade into an SR hatch...

Probably the purchase of the car itself. My integra spun a bearing so I felt that I needed to quickly purchase another car. Ended up buying a 90 hatch with a 5 speed swap for 3500 that didn't have a shift boot and since I bought it at night I missed the fact that some idiot tried to jack it up under the driver's side floor panel causing it to rip and leave a huge open hole and that the crappy body kit was molded on. The next day a friend said that his friend had a super clean coupe for sale for 2800 and I did a huge facepalm.

Just bought some 180/ circuit sports bumper position lights $80
The ones with the 2 bulbs each, that you can use as position lights/turn signals
Can barely see turn signal blink with the positions on so its a waste of money. should of bought the $40 ones
...Took my front bumper off so i can paint it..and one of the lights is cracked... fml
*not expensive. but annoying

My first car as a 16 year old was a base model 1995 240sx. I didn't know much about cars, definitely didn't know what drifting was, and just thought it was a cool looking car.
After about 6 months, the right rear caliper seized. I dropped it off at a shop before school to have it diagnosed. When I got out of school, my mom told me the shop called, said it was a seized rear caliper, needed to be replaced, and that the total parts and labor would be $450. I was $16, made $7/hr bussing tables, had spent all my savings on buying the car, and was still paying my parents back because I had to borrow money from them to pay for the car.
I told my mom to tell the shop I'm not paying $450, and that I'd come pick the car up. She said, "Oops.. I told them to go ahead and fix it." So I paid $450 for a crappy re-manufactured rear S14 caliper. And that is the point at which I started learning how to work on my own car.
