How long is this gonna last. Says good for up to 500F. I imagine with a bone stock engine that I will not get anywhere near this. Used a decent amount of 1200F clear coat on top.

Trendsetter? Rice? What do you think?

Trendsetter? No.... The trend of doing stupid shit to your car to try and set trends has been around for ages....

Not trying to set trends. I'm too old and too far behind what's cool to do that.

I'm surprised that no one seems to be doing this, I remember everyone going nuts over that rat rod S13 a few years back, and it has the blast pipes coming out the side of the bumper and are anodized green/blue.

And I'm kinda glad, cause when something I think is sick isn't the norm, the elitist part of me is satisfied for once.

if something you think is sick and isn't the norm, it is that way for a reason. the blue pipes are not my taste at all, neither was sticker bombing, stancing, JDM fan-boi-ism, or any of the other odd shit that idiot kids waste their money on, and think make them cool.

Example :

^^ Fucking stupid.

^^^ Fucking stupid

Should have just keep the exhaust chrome.. the way every other elitist would want it.

I'm old and I like it. Why? Because it's my favorite color...

As long as the color compliments the car and you've got the aero to back up such a flashy mod, I say go for it.

Can't afford real burnt titanium? Fake it!

That might be the dictionary definition of rice.

If you want to do it right send it off to be ceramic coated or plated in something nice.

But no one went "nuts" over that rice machine. No one with taste at least.

blue exhausts are cool when they are, you know, made of titanium. and they get blued by extreme exhaust temperatures. but this is borderline rice fryer 4000 markII ver.6.5

If he likes it, then I think it's cool. I think it pretty much replicates how a lot of exhausts are coming already now, whether they're actually heat-treated, anodized, or painted. For example, here's my Kakimoto GT1.0Z:

Generally I HATE things like this.

But for some reason this doesn't look too awful. Maybe if it were just the tips, it would look a little better.

Hurrr durrr, you painted something I didn't think of, I'm going to hate. I don't like innovative concepts. Herfa derf.

Get over it.

If you could find a paint to survive the heat some headers in that color would look dope.

FaLKoN240

I think less paint would've been better as well, but as a whole it looks cool.

Oh snap. I like this idea. Duplicolor exhausts, headers & valve colors. It might be hard to pull off a cohesive package, but I've seen Zilvians put together some dope color combos that I would have never imagined. Somebody do it.

Seraphim38
04-10-2014, 08:09 AM
you could only paint headers and such to match if they were ceramic coated first. They don't do ceramic 1200 degree + coatings in that color but you may be able to paint on top of the ceramic. I haven't ever tried.

Regarding the original post, I think it looks ok but I don't think the sound will meet my standards.

My car doesn't even have any exhaust tips on it, but it's got power...

it looks good now, but if the paint starts coming off, it will look like shit, and that will change my opinion from nice, to rice.

you know you can get the same affect if you just use a torch on the tips till its red. it will come out like that can that was posted.

zerodameaon
04-10-2014, 11:36 AM
All the blue/purple exhaust tips are hit with a torch or some other way to heat the tip, they did not go put them on a car or push hot air through them to burn the tips. That and if they for some reason did toss it on a car the exhaust hot spots would turn blue as well, like up near the cat where its closest to the heat source.

Are we all down for faking the funk on Zilva? Is that what we are now?

Time to go ziptie some no name over fenders on my ichigo front s13 with ebay 5 lug hubs and rotas. I'll be sure to sticker bomb my car with the brand names I'm ripping off while I'm at it.

Oh, can't forget the loud speaker BOV too.

Might be the next course of action. It is holding up so far, and since it's my daily and I put about 100 miles per day on it, who knows how long it will last. I'm not faking anything, there is no burnt titanium exhaust that is blue along the whole pipe.

If I spray painted the tips to make it look like a titanium tip, then I could see your point.

And either way, its spray paint that can be taken off with a can of paint stripper and a few hours of work. And it's also just a $250 dollar catback. no harm done if it gets totally fucked. lol

I love it personally ... its a very unique look. How did you actually obtain that color combo ? with the purple to blue ? is that two different colors blended ? or some other method ?

The torque method on steel doesnt give the effect like burnt titanium as much as most people think. I think this looks awesome, its a look you just cant achieve by burning ... Looks almost neochromed.

Just used duplicolor metal cast blue and purple. Sprayed it all blue, then did purple over the tips. Do light coats so it fades. Took maybe an hour tops.

Cool, well i think it looks nice. and a good alternative to neochrome that costs a TON!

How durable do you feel this stuff is ? Obviously with the high temp clear it should help with the durability but do you feel that the paint is a very hard coating when fully dried ?

Seems durable to far. It's fairly easy to scratch the first 24h or so. But hasnt chipped yet and have been daily driving it for about 400 miles now.

You can't burn carbon steel to give you the blue just like titanium(it turns blue it just looks like shit) but you can burn stainless like titanium, it just takes a bit more heat, roughly about 1000F vs about 800F for TI. For carbon steel you need about 500F to turn it blue but it just doesn't look as good as SS or TI.

Its a process called heat tinting and what you are really doing is oxidize the metal.

It's different I guess. Honestly, I spent more time staring at your center garnish than the exhaust. It makes me want to kick babies.

As for how long it will last, it depends on how well you prepped for paint. Did you sand/scratch up the exhaust so the paint has something to adhere to? Did you at least "bake" the exhaust in some way?

Once it starts peeling it will look like ass. Like, the "why are you wearing leggings?"" type of ass.

Also, did you paint it all the way back to the headers or just did that piece you showed us? It would look cool as fuck if you actually went all the way back, from under the car atleast.

It's just the back section. Still seems to be holding up well, I guess baking it on while driving is cool. This type of paint uses the metal base as most of it's metallic look, so if it was sanded in any way, it would show thru. You can even see where some of the welds and edges were buffed.

And ain't nothing wrong with kicking a few babies here and there.
