View Full Version : V35 320mm brake swap on S-Chassis

I haven't yet heard or read of anyone else who has done the 2005-onward V35 (HV35?/CPV35 6mt) 320mm rotor twin-piston/pot caliper swap on to an S-Chassis, so I thought it may be nice to have a thread with some basic info. I will update the thread as I add photos and get to my install!

In short:
Pre-2005 V35/Z33 non-brembos were 296mm(?) and Post-2005 V35 non-brembos were 320mm
All have the same bolt spacing on the caliper side, i.e. 100mm, which is what is found on S13/S14/S15/Z32 Skyline R32, R33, R34, plus the V35. (R35 and Z34 are different.)

HOWEVER, R34, V35 and Z33 use 14mm caliper-to-knuckle bolts, while the S13, S14, S15, Z32 use 12mm bolts.

Thus, in order to use the R34, V35 or Z33 calipers on your S-chassis, Z32, R32 or R33, you will need to drill out your knuckle bolt holes to 14mm or rethread the calipers to fit the smaller 12mm original bolts. This has been covered in other posts so I won't go into detail.

"Just bought the set of 2005 V35 Coupe calipers, rotors, and pads for $260 from my local junk yard (Pricey IMO. Was hoping to pay well under $200 until they opened with $390). I chose this for the sake of pedal feel (twin pots vs. 4 pot), rotor size (320mm) and wheel clearance - I like my low disk wheels and care little for pretty calipers. (I care more for rotor size!)

Hoping to install within a month, when I have a free weekend...

Quick deets, will try to get pics up later.

Rotors
Diameter: 320mm
Thickness: 28mm (min: 26mm)
Weight: 21.5lb/ea

Calipers
Twin pot/two piston
Weight: 15.5lb/ea (no pads)
OEM Pads: Hitachi HP66H

As far as I can tell/read, I will only need to worry about the bolt size (14mm on caliper, 12mm on S13 knuckle). I picked up a set of K-craft thread adapters (a whopping $45 - ridiculous!! but seemed better than the alternatives), although I'm not sure they will work until they arrive. Failing those, I am torn between drilling out the knuckles and helicoil-ing (or welding/rethreading) the calipers... Will let you know how this goes."

Rotor images to come... nothing special, though. vented, 28mm thick, 320mm in diameter -- a full 68mm more than the oem S13 non-abs (252mm), and 40mm more than the Kouki/JDM/S14/S15/Z32 brakes.

Update: Turns out that the K-Craft adapters actually won't work on an S13. Now figuring out whether or not it's safe to use helicoils or if there is some sort of thread sleeve which will allow me to use the S13's M12*P1.25 bolts in the V35's M14*P???? calipers.
Any suggestions?
Anyone know what the thread pitch is for the 2005+ V35 twin pot calipers?

Any help appreciated. :)

Just to follow up/confirm -- these do indeed fit, and the only two modifications you need on your S13 are:
1) Drill-out your knuckles to accept the larger 14mm brake caliper bolts
2) Cut/grind the caliper bolts down by about 6-8mm in order to clear the back of the rotors

OEM S13 brake lines work - no investing in new 4-pot lines!
Basically the same as for an R34 brembo or Z33/CPV35 Brembo kit.

First impressions: Pedal is definitely softer than with OEM 280mm RPS13 rotors and calipers, but not uncomfortably. Haven't had a chance to get the guy up on the twisties but will report back on that later.

Fills up the 18" wheels much more nicely. (320mm rotors!)
Will fit under most 17s I'm 90% sure... but while it also looks like they might fit under 16s, it would be really tight, and would depend on rim and face design. The twin caliper setup gives you more room between the caliper and the back of the wheel face/disk - so you can get a fatter lip!

For the sake of people searching in the future... these are the same 320mm rotors as for:
KV36 v36 sedan, kouki (Nov '04 and later) Z33, kouki (Nov '04 and later) V35 and CPV35, and the Y50 Fuga.

Forgot to mention above that the outside "cover" of your rotor's dust shield will have to be either cut off (so there is no 90-degree bend covering the rotor vane outlets), or removed entirely.
