hey guys, just wanted to get some opinion on the best spring and strut combination out there AROUND $ 500.00

i have heard many opinions on the AGX wearing out with the incorrect spring rate and drop, and i have also heard some with the inexpensive GR2'S which are basiclly stock replacement, right??

just trying to weigh my options as i drive down the road and the rear ends is wobbling over bumps... :naughty:

prefer coilovers but not within my budget, other than the TEIN basic which are about 850 retail at a 20% margin, thats almost within budget but bit off.

any recomendations?? daily driver with ocasionall track use. :fruit:

RSR down or Tein S-Tech with Tokico HPs

or

RSR race with used Konis or AGX. (out of your price range probably)

Youre MUCH better off getting Tein Basics though. Spring/shock combos dont leave much suspension travel, and don't lower the car much at all.

WORD

You will be much happier to have height adjustability for only about 200 or 300 more dollars. I'm pretty sure that the dampeners are short stroke as well. Just start saving up those dollars and you'll have it no time.

well it looks like i can get the TEIN S-TECH springs at cost for 120, any recomendation on shock for the S-TECH. i had them on a ford focus and it seemed the spring rate (180lbs) was to soft for the drop 2.6". I used these with the EIBACH pro damper kit which bottomed out alot. but for the S14 iam sure its a different story...

They are still soft on an S14.

I had 3.6kg springs (RSR downs) before and thought it was too soft for the car, even with swaybars.
I'm pretty happy with the RSR race springs it has now though. But if you go with these, get some GOOD struts. Stock replacement types don't provide enough damping for 5kg springs.

S.Tech + AGX is around $550 if you get them both as cheap as possible, not including shipping. It's a good combo. Stiffer or lower springs than that are not good for the AGX's long-term longevity.

i second that. Just put the tanabe G's in a little more than week ago. Mated with AGX, they're pretty nice. I didn't opt for coilovers because they were too expensive as well. Not many people have the tanabe's but they dropped the car just enough for me not to scrape or to cause any trouble.

I might post a review soon w/ pics and stuff...

Stock and save for coilovers. Get some ST swaybars and buy some new shox.

what is the drop on the s-techs? are there any shocks out there that can handle sportline springs without their longevity being hurt?

stech's are about 1 inch all around. the tanabe G's dropped mine a little less than 2 " all around

Sportlines are just too low for their spring rate. It doesn't matter what strut you use, though a short-stroke strut would fare somewhat better.

well, i have agx's plus whitelines, setup cost me 550...i love the combo, and decided in taht direction because coilovers were not needed imo for what i wanted.

I've had Sportlines/AGX combo for about 2 years on my first S13... it lowered the car about 2 inches... but the front still had about a 3 inch gap... and they bottomed out quite a bit... this time I'm going with Tein Basics... cuz I've heard nothing but good things about those and I don't need adjusting, cuz I don't go racing anymore... I'm just looking for a way to lower the car and good ride quality...

TireRack.com

I have the KYB AGX and Eibach Pro-Kits. But, the H&R's they sell are pretty good too. I like the S-Tech's idea as well. I like my ProKits. I wanted a subtle drop and a decent ride. ProKits meet my wants and needs PERFECTLY. I am a VERY happy camper. highly recommended.

So, look on TireRack.com. This way you have a price to compare to. DON'T BUY USED! Thats ridiculous. I wouldn't even buy used springs. Its a waste, since they are a wear part. The "deals" I found on eBay were just not good enough to justify the risk involved. I'd rather pay a tiny bit extra for that peace of mind.
