View Full Version : SR20DET - AC flipping on and off?
I was driving around in the local 95 degree weather today and noticed the car was jerking slightly even when my foot was steady on the throttle.
Then I noticed that the AC was flipping on and off randomly and that was causing the jerking. Is this some kind of safety feature to keep the car or AC from over heating? Or is it some other kind of problem?
I'm running a blacktop S13 SR20DET with the US R134A AC system - the one with the big AC condenser in front of the radiator and the AC fan mounted in behind of the radiator.
Any help is appreciated!

I hate to bring up a old thread, but it's hard searching for AC when you need to use a three letter word.
Anyways, having the same problem.. same setup and AC is turning on and off randomly. It seems to happen more when I'm at idle, but it still happens when moving. It might be that I notice it more one at idle since it's freakin hot outside.
Anyone know the reason?
S13, SR, altima fan, koyo rad, condenser fan, etc..

most vehicles have a cycling clutch or orfice tube design-they function to keep the evaporator from freezing up or when the line pressure gets too high. a ac sensor might be going bad (the one in the little condensor dryer (cylinder shaped thing a little bigger than a pop can))
just a guess, most modern vehicles cycle the ac clutch on and off to save fuel plus what i said up top^^ i don't know about the 240's though. sorry just a guess.

i just noticed with my a/c on, i just get idling problems... it never stalled, but it does get pretty low. i have recirculated bov and stock motor... a/c is great... but it bugs me abou the idle...
no problems with it off...

the ecu is suppose to compensate for the a/c and adjust the idle. if the idle drops significantly and the ecu doesnt seem to be doing its job, double check the wiring.
