if you wanna do it yourself I suggest using a razor blade and windex but its a huge pain in the ass, plus you will destroy your rear defroster. I went to a tint shop, they charged me like 30 bucks and used this spray stuff, put a garbage bag on the inside of the window after he sprayed, let it cook in the sun for like 15 minutes and it came right off. You should let a proffessional do it.

Just take a hair dryer, warm up the tint (your melting the glue that holds it on) then take a razor and scrape it off. Should come right off.

yup, just asked our neighbors...window tinting company...like ca18guy said heat up with hair dryer, SLOWLY pull tint off, use a razor blade to remove pieces on side windows, BUT not on back window with defroster....use warm water with some dish soap mixed in and wet the pieces. they should soften and peel off. lastly u CAN use steel wool (sounds bad but these guys assure me it wont harm defrost or factory "fade" on inside of glass) and continue use of soapy water til its clean. sounds like a ho lotta fun!

I think that the best thing to use is ammonia to take tint of because it disolves the glue.  Thats also why people say don't use windex with ammonia on tinted windows because it takes the tint off.

i think all your methods would work if he hadn't peel off the first layer of tint..now he has the nasty ugly lookin last half of the tint..in which case cannot be remove with anything..beside the razor..what i did was bought some razor got one of them vise lock thing (forgot what its' really called)and hooked it up so the razor wwon't move and jsut scrub hard down the window...don't be afraid cause u won't scratch the window..but if u do it HARD enuff u will bust the window open..or if your rich just go out and buy a new rear window...

oh and when i removed mines..i just said F**K it and killed all my rear defroster lines...#### when the winter comes imma be regrettin but it's okay...thats why i got the Sentra for...hehe..

check this website out...helpfull..

I did it all with a razor, water & soap.  4 hours later, it was off, and my forearms were bigger for some odd reason.

Windex with amonia and use a newspaper to scrub it off. It does work, cause I've done it to both of my cars without damaging the rear defrost. It takes some elbow grease so don't lolly gag it.

you can take it off your rear window without killing your defroster. I just did this to my car and i works great, i kinda found it out by mistake. if you take rain-x de-ice spray, and then spray it on the glue, once you get the tint off, you can just wipe off all the glue, it takes a little elbow greese, but you get to keep your rear defroster. i didn't discover this until half way through my job, and by then i had already ruined my rear defroster, but if i had done it at the beginning i could have saved it.

-heat
-peel
-cool
-acetone (not the back glass though, you'll take off the heater!)
-varsol on back glass

^^^^^ Good advice, you should try it one of these years.

so what's the deal about heating up the defroster lines? i doubt the heat will damage it since it sits in the sun all day... heh..

its funny to see this thread b/c just the other day i had to get my car inspected. And with 2% tint, no one would do it for me, not even the shop on base, or the 85 year old man that has a beat up shop next to the van down by the river.

as the story goes...

i went out to get my car inspected and there was only one shop open that did state insp. They were closing in 15 minutes or so, they said that they would fail me before i even pulled in b/c of the tint. The mech smiled and handed me and my buddy a razor and said "you got about ten minutes" haha

we went at it, and got all the tint off in about what time they had given us. Pulled it in to the bay, and since all the mechs were done for the night, they decided to help put with this last one. i had about 8 or 9 mechs finding problems with my car left and right. nothing serious tho.

anywho, the next day, i got it inspected on base, the guy there said he would have passed me with tint.

now im stuck with windows that are sticky as hell just b/c im too lazy to take amonia to them.

life is great isnt it?
