"1973" Leyland Mini Cooper HSE

This is my Mini Cooper HSE, all stock, 52k original mile,
with a 998cc "Special" engine that was produced so that
Rover/ Leyland could race in the under one liter classes
of rally and road races.

According to the serial numbers the car was built in
England, in 1984 but is registered as a 1973. I am the third
owner and first in the United States. The car was imported
from Italy in 2008 with the use of the U.S. military by the
second owner and just sat in a shop until I bought it,
jumped through all the hoops to get it registered and
road legal.

The interior is in decent shape but will need some
work to get perfect. It has a new headliner, carpet and
upholstery. Driver side seat has a tear (as shown) and
passenger seat shows wear. Has one new rear seat belt on
the passenger side and is missing the driver side rear seat
belt. Has cracks in the dash pad and could use a new liner
for the dash. Everything else is in good working condition
and works great for the year.

The engine runs incredibly strong with no issues.
Starts up every time, pulls hard (for such a little engine)
and has never given me any trouble. With that said, it is
British built, meaning, it leaks oil. Not enough to leave spots
on the drive way but it does show on the engine. It doesn't
over heat, which is a problem with Coopers, but an upgrade
in the cooling system is recommended depending on how
much you want to drive or where you live.

The body is where most would be overwhelmed. Again,
due to the fact that it is British made, it does rust quite easily.
As far as Minis are concerned, this one is pretty rust free.
Most are incredibly rusty and extremely hard to get rid of. It
does have a few dings and dents but nothing that can't be
worked out. The longer I keep it the more body work will be
done it. Will need a new rear bumper and possibly a battery
tray (as seen in exhaust video). Lastly, it has some sweet fender
mirrors!

The suspension is all stock and could probably stand
to be replaced or serviced soon, but it is a Mini and handles
better than anything I have ever driven.

The brakes are drums all around and will need to be
serviced. I believe there is air in the lines or drums, but I
haven't gotten around to pressurizing the system and bleeding
them. Mini brakes are a giant headache to get all the air out of,
believe me. All it takes is a little pump of the brakes for them
to become stiff. Has new brake cylinder.

Electronics are pretty sound. The steering column switch
has some play in it but still functions and one of the headlights
is going out. It's a sealed light so it will need a whole replacement.

That sums it up pretty easily. This is a very rare and fun car to drive
that gains more positive attention than pretty much anything on
the street.

If I were to trade, I'm only really looking to trade for a Forester XT, but I could check out your car. PM'ed.

Also, added videos!

I am possibly interested. Where are you located? I was looking for a RHD MKII and I am surprised to see this on a Nissan forum. Do you have it up on minimania.com? These old Minis are beautiful little machines. I have a 09 MCS but was looking for an old one before I bought it.

No. Restore them back to stock and drive it like a grandpa.
