What do you think about a K&N cold air intake? Good enough?

Well, K&N doesn't make a cold air intake (CAI) for our cars. They do have a Mass air intake (cone filter) which I have and love. To make it a CAI you need the injez intake and their cold air extention on the pipe.

But just using the k&n makes a huge difference.

i can't wait to get my cae, but yeah the injen w/ k&n works just fine.

I've seen it to many times.

DON'T buy nice intake tubing like Injen intake with cae and put a cheap $50 filter element on it. Buy a K&N or and HKS, whatever your heard desires. Otherwise your blowing the whole deal.

I have a stillen intake, which is pretty much a bolt on K&N filter with some other little mods. Its great and i love it. The way that it is better than most intakes is that most intakes use metal tubing right? Well, metal heats up more easily than plastic does (from the engine heat). It makes perfect sense to use the factory pipe with a mass air flow adapter and filter rather than aliminum piping. Although there isn't a CAE for it, on the S13's you can replace the driver's side headlight cover with a vented one, making it a ram air. Efectively, it sends colder air right to the intake. Enjuku sells one for like $96. I plan on getting it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Definitely get a K&N filter, but custom make your intake. It's not hard. PVC all the way. It works just fine. Check out the website for pics.

clean it when it is dirty or when u can hear it breathing on idle....
usually they last for like 6 months before u need to wash it.... for some reason mine is so dirty after 3 months

yeah, but I think he was asking how you actually clean it. IE do you wash it in water, or just what? I know that K&N filters have recharge kits that come with more oil for the filter etc, but i'm not sure about other filters.

i've had mine on for 2 years, i just hit it with the air hose every 6 months. guess i'll need to check with mr. wolfe on cleaning procedures. but i've always been able to hear mine breathe at idle. actually sounds like a strong vaccum.

What about the filter that comes with Injen's intake? Are those decent? And can a K&N Recharger kit work on Injen's filter?

I just hit mine with an airhose every so often. But yeah, you wash it out with warm water. When it dries, use the oil in the spray-bottle that came with. (or did it?)

My Injen didn't come with anything for cleaning the filter, but I still have the K&N cleaning kit from my previous car. That should work, right?

Yeah, now that I think about it, I don't remember my Injen coming with one either. K&N kit should do it.
