I also want to know how much hp a stock hatchback '90 240sx has. One more thing, how do u know if it's fastback version, se version, or regular version?

I think the stock 90' 240sx had 140 HP. All the one's after that had 155 HP. My car has some where between 170-180 HP, I think i'm gonna change that to closer to 200 by december, i'm getting bored with that amount

I have a 1998 with Injen CAI and everything else is stock. I'm guessing that's 5 Hp added or less. Hopefully by the end of this year (or maybe early next year cuz I'll need some money for Christmas also) I'll have a 5Zigen Fireball catback and a Greddy header installed. What should that give me?

Also, I don't quite understand what people mean when they say Hp at the crank or at the wheels. Is the 155 stock Hp just how much power the engine puts out without the car? Someone please educate me. (I wish I had taken auto-tech in high school.)

HP at the crank is what most manufacter's tell the public cause it's the highest. It's the HP that your engine puts out before it starts transfering the power to the tranny (and the rest of the driveline) Wheel HP is exactly that, the amount of HP that get's to the wheels, it's the only HP rating that really matters cause it's the amount of HP that you are actually using.

well, in order to find out if your 240 is a fastback or a coupe, just open the trunk and if you see the the rear windshield go up with the trunk (the whole back totally open), then you have a fastback. for coupe, only the trunk opens. fastbacks have bigger trunk space as well.

well since i got hotshot headers, injen intake, and n1 dual for my s13 fastback im guessing around 180-190hp to the crank. i want to be over 200hp though.

I am probably going to dyno my car on the 18th for an essentially baseline run. There is going to be a dyno meet here in AZ then at Street Flight Dyno in Phoenix.

headers intake and exhaust should only give you 15hp MAX... i've heard of all 3 of those giving less than 10... so.... 4 those of u that think ur getting close to 200 without new compression pistons and some forced induction r crazy.... (i take that back,, there is some guy with a 230hp NA 240... but he spent more doing that than he would have on a turbo... so... )

Hopefully I'm at about 350 crank hp. Havent dynoed yet but my clutch was only designed for 287 and it slips like crazy.

11-08-2001, 09:29 PM
is 162-63 crank hp realistic with an exhaust and intake?

Well, I've the thingy hanging from my rearview, about thirty pounds of sound, thirty more pounds of school books, tint and pinstriping (from the dealership), decent gas, balding tires, and a small dent on my fender. So, I'm guessing with these mods I should be pushing 'bout 130 ponies at the wheels, that sound close to you guys? ####, being broke sucks

BTW: stock hp ratings (trim level doesn't effect HP on the 240, same engine & drivetrain):
89-90: 140 hp, 156 (give or take) ft bls torque
91-98: 155 hp, 160 torque

Both these are at the crank.
