How much did the pick up speed increase on the highway after installing it? The adds say "more useable horsepower"... how much of this did you notice? Anything you dont like about it? Im considering getting one... Also, is it really necessary to replace the clutch at the same time... the stock one seems to do fine for me and has a whole lot of life left in it. Thanks for any info

I think you'll get more torque at the wheel, but HP I'm not to sure about.

the reason u need a new clutch is because ur new fly wheel has a clean surface witch the old clutch doesnt, thismay leed to a cuple of things , slipping ,or premature wear of the fly wheel, now a lightend fly wheel by its self dont expect to zoom from 50 to 65 by just tapping the gas , KA's have a very long intake manifold so the rev's take its time in climbing , it all depends on what ur planing with ur vehicule.

you won't notice anything or much at all on the highway, the difference is felt more in 1st and 2nd gears, so the answer is NO, not gonna do anything for you on the highway, esp. on the KA. Better to save up ;]

i have a fidanza and i first thought that the revs will drop really quick when you shift but it doesn't seem like it. it can rev faster but it doesn't seem to drop as quick. pretty nice still. maybe b/c my b&m ss allows quicker shifts taht neutralizes the quicker rpm drop? it does feel really rev hapy in lower gears like the guy on top mentioned. i drove an sohc ka and it seems definitely slower but thats probalby due to the sohc being auto and having 10 less hp? i dont think the 10 less hp/trq makes that much of a difference, so maybe its all flywheel. lol.

You'll see that it's not power, but a lighter car *effectively* that gives you a speed increase.

i'd say its a DAY and Night difference. it will free up quite a few horses for you. it will rev faster. combined with SS like B&M, and a nice racin clutch - you got a base to build up your torque monger.

Wish I could put one on my AUTO ka ....wait,could I?

I think auto flywheels are pretty light to begin with, but I never weighed mine.

i thought auto's have torque converters, not flywheels??!

autos do have torque converters..but i think they have a thing ass flywheel thing, or whatever i took out to do the swap hehe.

Yep. They have flywheels.

auto's have flex plates, but mine i noticed less torque on the shift, my friends stock with intake exhaust feels like it pulls harder off a shift, but mine revs alot faster and takes him down low, you loose momentum in the motor so for me with pdm cams sometimes i drop out of the power band cause my revs drop alot between shifts.

They all have the same type of starter so they have to use some type of flywheel.

when i did my flywheel I change the flywheel, clutch, and shifter. I really didn't notice the difference in the begining, but as time went pass I notice that it revved like crazy and made the car alot more responsive. I think it is a worth enough mod to do, especially if you are going to go turbo, because it will help spool up the turbo faster.

If your gonna get a lighter flywheel, go ahead and get a clutch cuz you wouldnt wanna do that shiet half ass. If the clutch acts up, you wouldnt wanna drop the tranny again just to replace the clutch. Its better to do it in one swoop. Another advice would be...if you go with the FW/clutch replacement, try to see if you can buy an underdrive pulley too. Trust me...itll be worth the while. Itll make the KA into a revving beast!!!

FRPilot, you cant really compare a auto to a manual car, even if the motors are diferent, the single cam really isnt that bad, infact mine pulls pretty hard, harder than most ppl i know with dual cams, the single cam has a better torque curve. sorry, just educating.

yea, everyone's right. I still don't feel the lightened flywheel is going to make that much of a diff. for you on the highway, if that's what you're looking for specifically.

i've riden in a lightweight flywheel/6puck/UDCpulley ka24de and it revs nicely. i so far have a 6puck/UDCpulley and just want the flywheel for the removable surface plate so i don't have to remachine the damn thing everytime my 6puck goes out. which companies have the removable plates? thanks.

idiots...
auto transmissions dont use the flywheel for anything other than starting the car, thats ALL it does. its a super light piece of shit with teeth that spins when the starter engages... the massive loss of power is not in the flywheel, its in the fucking crap auto transmission.
well, i still had fun with my auto.. but the point is.. dont talk about flywheels when you're talking auto.. because there IS no upgrade. you own an auto and want to make it faster? change it to stick.
want to KEEP auto and go faster? build your motor and then upgrade your TQ converter, thats it.

my fly wheel has a removable face, but the new surface is $80, and fly wheel getting machined is $30 in my town. so a stocker is cheaper and the little screws that hold the surface on, look like they would just get really messed up/torn up trying to get them out. :-/
