I just got a 240sx and Ive never had a standard car before, I was just wondering if anybody can tell me things that I can make sure not to do.... i.e. not peeling out. Also, what signs can you look for that tells you that it's time to change the clutch?

not being able to peel out like u once had is a sign... because when a clutch i dying, it just stops grabbing or grabbing as much.... also the clutch height usually gets higher, the catch point becomes smaller...

what happens if u just don't change it and leave it like that? can u still survive, i mean does it just affect performance does it affect driveability also, to the point of having no choice but to change?

i have that problem now... so i am really nice to my clutch now... but what happens if u dont change it while u r slipping, it could just die on u and u cant even drive your car to the shop. my clutch died before cuz i didnt know the signs of wear, i went somewhere like 30mins away and then i could only rev high but the car would bearly move.... i was lucky though, drove it back to my mechanic and they told me my clutch died... i got an ACT, it was awesome... i am saving money for one now.... i wanna know if we can get a group deal cuz many people want an ACT now.... there is like 5+ ppl on freshalloy and a few ppl who wants one from this forum....

the funny thing is it only slipped on one occasion. I was driving for like 2 straight hours cause there was heavy traffic (I live in NY...figures). It started slipping and i was like ####, what the heck is going on. It never happened again but I still wonder if it will happen in the near future.

hey drifterx...what a coincidence, that just happened to me Sunday afternoon. and of course, I did not know any signs of clutch wear. I just started driving last Thursday. and like you said, all it does is rev and no acceleration. it smells like ass too. but tha'ts just when you burn the crap out of it. I gagged Sunday because my clutch just went out period. I smelt it all over the car. but yeah, you may wanna order a clutch....soon!

Slipping is definitely it.
Shouldn't this topic be in Tech Talk?
I think I should practice my Moderator abilities...
RPM's rise as the car goes nowhere.
Let out clutch when doing this and you feel it grab.
Then your clutch is about toast.

I don't know but mine just acts funny. I can't go into R with out trying really to hard. I can't really shift into gears right. It gets really hard to shift gears. Can some please tell me what the #### is going on? I can even smell the #### thing Sometimes. or is it the RICE BURNING?

mine doesnt slip, it rubs or grinds when i switch gears... i can feel it and i know its not good.... wtf is that?
Sounds like it's not being disengaged all the way, may need adjustment.

You can try putting your car into 5th gear. Then try to go. The car should stall immediately. If not, then your clutch is going.

Depending on where you get it from, I wouldn't think much more than $250......
