Hello, i recently installed an rb25det NEO into my Datsun 240z. Using a consult cable to moniter coolant temps i cant seem to get the engine up to proper operating temp. While cruising down the highway, temps stay around 160 or so. If i idle the engine in the driveway, temps get up to about 195 or so, with the electric fans cycling off and on as they should, which seems a little warm, but not overheated. Im not worried about the extended idle coolant temp, im worried about the low criuse temps. Any suggestions? Im running a brand new standard non n1 water pump, new stant thermostat for a 1995 300zx turbo, new coolant temp sensor, an offbrand aluminum 240sx radiator and a set of 12" fans in pull configuration with an intercooler mounted in front of the radiator. Outside temps range from about 40°f on the morning drive to work to about 70°f on my drive home. It does seem to run slightly warmer on my drive home, but never makes it to 170° or higher unless i get stuck in traffic. Im not sure if the thermostat is not closing all the way, or if maybe my heater core is allowing enough coolant to flow around the thermostat somehow to cause the over cooling issue or what. I know its better to have this problem then an overheating problem, but id like to address is nonetheless. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Have you tried changing out your T-stat for a hotter one?

+1

You can get thermostats in many temperatures, your engine has to warm up above that for the hot liquid to b sent into the radiator...

If you did what a lot of people who don't know better do, and got a nismo "low" temp one, time to switch back to regular temp part

Not a nismo low temp t stat. Its a Stant brand stock temp thermostat for a 1995 300zx. Supposed to open around 185ish.

Where is your coolant tap at? Are you reading fluid temp going in or coming out of the motor? My guess is you have your tap on the entrance to your motor.

The tap is in the upper radiator hose. Roughtly 6 inches from the engine about half way between the engine and the radiator.

Not sure on the temp of the thermo your using but Neo thermostat are not the same as non Neos. they run hotter from the factory.

I have been having a similar issue in my r33 however I do use a nismo thermostat but what I think my issue is I haven't had a chance to double check is a constantly engaged fan clutch I know that you're running electric fans but I noticed you did not mention they were on a temperature switch or fan controller. also are you reading the entry temperature to the radiator or the exit temperature.

Im reading the temp of the water exitng the head, going into the radiator. The same general location the factory temp sensor was, simply 6 inches further away from the cylinder head. The fans are on a thermo switch. The switch is supposed to come on at 185 and go off at 170. When using my consult cable however, the fans dont come on untill about 195 and go off at about 185 or so. Not really worried about that side of the equation, in woried about my cold temps as i drive down the freeway. No fans running at all. The radiator is simply being cooled by the air passing through the radiator at speed. You woukd think that the thermostat would close some, allowng the engine to warm up to 185-190ish, yet my engine runs ar 160 degrees or so under those conditions.
