So I don't know if this is normal for my timing...

When I point the light at the crank pully while the car is idleing with the tps plugged in, the idle is not stable, hunts between 14-1700 rpm. the timing changes with the hunt to 10-25 deg.

I unplugged the tps to stabilize the idle and it dies. When I start it up it goes into a higher idle like it is supposed to. I have that set to 15 deg. Once I plug the tps back in. The idle is back down to 900 and hunts for a few seconds and then dies. I then start the car up and the idle is back up to 1400 and doesn't die.

Any idea's? I can't get my idle down to be even close to 650, I have searched for leaks over and over, cleaned the iacv, adjusted it with and without the tps plugged in, adjusted it with and without the plug on the iacv plugged in and still have the high idle.

are you counting the 1st timing mark as zero? Maybe the idle air needs to be cleaned or the gasket is bad. Are you still on the stock intake manifold?

I am counting the first mark as zero. I have already cleaned out the iacv. It was nasty before but it is fresh now.

I just went out and messed with it a little more.

I adjusted the throttle stop on the tb down. I have the idle down to 750 now. I can live with that. The idle doesn't hunt any more either. I went and did the timing per the fsm and when I unplugged the tps, the idle rose up for a few seconds and then came back down to 750. I went and set the timing. Before I started it was at 18 and vac was -9.8. Now it is set at 15 and vac is -9.2. When I plugged the tps back in the idle stayed at 750.

After I did a light rev, the idle stabilized and sat at 1000. I will drive it later on and see how it drives compared to how it was before.

So after driving it, I don't think the timing is still 100%. I am getting my signal from the loop on the back of the coil pack harness. I will soon try the plug wire to coil on cyl 1 when I get a chance.

My question still remands....

Should the timing be the same or different when the tps is plugged in and not plugged in? If not, which should be 15 deg?
