ok those stupid bolts in the front, my muscled hand get stuck between tranny and frame i cant get enough grip on the bolts from under the car, SO

before i do this,

is this a good idea

-approximate the area of the bolts and drill with a 15mm or bigger probe through that sheet of metal to get to them?

i just dont know if its a good idea, just dont want to fuck it up.

Or you could take off the cross member and give yourself a lot more room. Should take about a couple of minutes, or you could cut.

you DO NOT need to jack up your car to reach the two front bolts for the B&M Short Shifter...atleast on a S14 you dont. Heres what I did. I loosened/took off the other 4 bolts and used a ratcheting wrench(open on one side and has a ratcheting box end on the other) to take off the front two bolts. It IS a little harder getting the bolts BACK in, but use a set of needle nose pliers to grab the bolts and guide them into the holes. You absolutely DONT need to jack up the car/cut into the heat shield/squeeze your hand between the tranny and chassis. PM me if you need more details.

OR do what I did and use 4 bolts, torque them down properly and smile because you just shaved off 2 bolts worth of weight. Oh yes...and the shifter still works after 500mi so far.

i'm missing just one of the bolts and my tranny leaks from the corner the bolt is missing on. but you can still continue to think you're safe if you want.

ok shifter is in, i drilled 2 holes, im gonna even them out a lil with a grinder to dull it up, then put dinomat patches on both from bottom and from top (just to be sure).

total time drilling- 15 min plus beating wholes out, pullin total is 30 min.

great mod, the shifts feel wicked. now i need to change the fluid tommorow and install nams rucas.

peace

i actually amazed to well the shifter is build. no rattle, no buzz.

shifts 1 to 2, & 3 to 4th are almost instant. 2 to 3 and 4th to 5 are a lil taller but still at least 30% shorter. great stuff. :naughtyd:
