After a hard pull in boost on decel (throttle closed) is it normal to have it pop and backfire?

I'm not getting flames. As soon as it goes super low into vac with the throttle shut it does this. I have a stand alone. (megasquirt 1 with extra code 029y4a self tuned) Decel enrichment was played with a little bit today and it got quieter but still does it a good bit. I can not change decel fueling value unless it's in the fueling table. Too much fuel will cause it to shoot 4 foot flames from the exhaust. Lol. Mostly i'm going off my mapping. The old school way with wideband and conservative timing.

Car runs and boosts great for the most part. v6 running on batch fire injection (3 injectors fire 1,3,5 then the other 3 fire 2,4,6) so i have a very rich idle at 13.2 afr. Crusing varies from 15.5-16.0 in cruise. Transition from 2500 into boost i'm in the 13's then 12 to low 11 to redline.

My vac/boost range is 20kpa (where it goes after i let the throttle go) up to 250kpa. 100 kpa is 0 psi/vac. My fueling in boost goes from 95-100 percent ve. IN part throttle it's about 60-67 percent ve. Down low near that 20kpa after a pull where i shut throttle it's at 37-40 percent ve. Afrs down there go as high as 17....

Once loading picks back up i'm back to stoich or richer and the popping stops. WIth the clutch in out of gear coasting to stop signs/lights it doesn't pop bang at all. I dont shift like a lazy ass so it's not doing it between shifts. Just only when i'm slowing down after lifting IN GEAR. Map sensor, not maf. TPS has real time readout of where it is and i can calibrate it from the drivers seat. My sensors all read fine. My o2 sensor is not allowed to control any fueling whatsoever due to a latency issue i have between what the ecu software is displaying and the actual value i see on my LC1 gauge. Lambda control is OFF and will stay off til i figure out the latency issue. 110 percent man working the machine here.

I hope i'm giving enough info to be helped. If not, let me know what else you need.

Thanks.

i'm running 3" straight pipe on a stock sr with stock ECU and i'll get pops on decel just about everytime, randomly sometimes i'll get a larger backfire with a loud pop, but just like you no flames. as far as i'm aware it's fairly normal for straight pipe, mainly because of the lack of a cat. i'm sure if you tinker with your tune you can get them real quiet or close to non existant, but i'm pretty sure if you're running straight pipe you'll get a couple pops sometimes no matter what.

Lol. Thanks a ton.

At least i know my tune isn't all that bad. Do you have a wideband? Any chance you can shoot me your afr when the events occur on decel?

It's normal and sometimes I'd get flames. Added a muffler, I still get the same thing (Hooker Max Flow, basically still a str8 pipe)

It's because the bov is not recirculated.

x2. Any turbo car I have been in or owned would pop/backfire pretty often after the throttle was lifted an was still in gear with the bov vented to atmosphere.

BOV recir will keep it from bogging like ass after a shift.

Mine is straight pipe with e85. Backfire is pretty standard even when just pushing in the clutch. My friend also reports flames at night with regular shifting from 1-2 2-3 so that worries me a little if i was driving on the street and a cop wanted to be well a cop.
If you are decel in gear.. is it High rpms you get the popping the worst? I know if im cruising in like 5th and let off the gas it doesn't start crackling, but if im higher in the RPM range like [email protected] and let off the gas it does.
Its pretty normal for catless cars
