Just curious what those of you who are not native to Japan do for a living there?
I'm sure the majority of you are military, or as I've also read; school teachers. What else do you all do? What are job opportunities like over there, regardless of fluency in Japanese?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I am a school teacher, don't want to stay at it for two long really. You need to be well educated and willing to learn Japanese to fluency to make any inroads here.

I taught in a public school there for 3 years. Other than military and schools there are other language learning centers. Other than that if you don't speak at least basic Japanese you wont be able to really work much of anywhere except possibly international type stores such as IKEA and American Eagle, Abercrombie ect because they are always wanting to have "legit" Americans, although at least basic Japanese is preferred there as well.

I appreciate the input. I plan on beginning Japanese language courses soon to become fluent in the language, but was curious what kind of opportunities were there if any, especially because the cost of living is so high so I know savings will only carry me and my wife for a few months.
If I were to be completely fluent in Japanese, are jobs easy to come by? (even menial positions if I were in need to find something merely to "get by")
Thanks again for the info, guys.

Simply awesome lol. That sounds like something I'd want to do!
PS-Great thread, I bet a lot of people would like to know. I wish I could leave this terrible rock called America and reside in Japan.
