Hi there, I'm kind of stump on this idle issue with my car, the car runs fine I daily it 120 miles a day 5 days a week.

My issue is this, when the car gets to operating temperature and is kept at idle for about a minute it will smoke. I searched and I was pretty positive it was the valve seals, but today I started checking into it a little further and I'm a little confused.

The tailpipe is blowing WHITE smoke, not blue or black, it has a fumes smell not water smell coming out the pipe. spark plugs don't seem to have any oil resedue and my car doesn't over heat or loose water. I do loose oil but i have a oil leak on the main seal. I do think my CAT is bad.
Car wont smoke cold start, car wont smoke high RPMS, will smoke more when heat comes into play or AC is on also on idle.

here are some photos and video of datascan and smoke. Anyone that can help me out with this ill buy them some beers.

So here are the pictures.

i had to replace the engine on my 240sx a few months ago after having a failure and not having the time to fix it i swaped it for another KA24DE. it had the exact syptoms you have; on smokes when sitting for a min which would always bee worse after down shifting to the red light. i couldnt make it smoke anyother way did my vavle seals with the jwt spring tool and shoe laces an afternoon later it no longer smoked (just did this like last week).

i tied em together at one end, put the cyl i was working on at BDC, the carefully jammed them into the spark plug hole (untied end). I put all but an inch or 2 in, spun it to TDC. then started to remove springs and replace the vavle seals. the shoelaces keep the valves from falling in, i did this at my apartment so i didnt have access to shop air and a leak downtester like JWT reccomends.

NP pm me if you want a deal on the JWT tool. i will proably never use it again. it worth it as you save 150 and 5hr by not having to do the headgasket. ill even give you the shoelaces lol

Im having the same exact issue here. I also believe mine is the valve seals.. I may replace them today because i have 2 broken exhaust studs and im about to put a turbo on. If i replace the valve seals, Ill let you know if it fixes the issue.

In conclusion it turn out it was the valve stems, no more smoke. So bad valve seals also make the car smoke somewhat white. The difference would be it will smell like burnt oil.
As for the jtw tool , thankfully i got a deal from foreverdeath and shoelaces lol. But the tool isnt really that good to use, i had to still do one valve at a time, the clearance isnt that great so you have to move it around.

Hopefully this helps out other people.

Glad to hear you fixed it. You can remove all the springs without in bolting tool but you have to almost fully back out the compression bolt. also it's just seems impossible in spots. Ya I found it a pain in the ass too, Kinda why I choose to pass it on if I ever gotta do it again I'll pull the head and do more work while It's out buts its my daily and only car.
