View Full Version : JWT super lean AFR's at idle.

Hey so I got my KA-T up and running, I have a t-25 on an s14 KA with 370cc injectors JWT ecu, Z32 MAF, FMIC pretty basic setup. Now my question is this. I plan on keeping the T-25 setup for a while but my end goal is about 350-375whp with a gt2871r and cams.
I'm currently seeing AFR's anywhere from 11.7-12.9 under full boost, 14.8-15.9 under normal driving (Which I think is a little lean) and I'm like 17.5-lean on idle. I did mount my wideband about 4 inches past the end of my turbo elbow on my downpipe instead of my turbo elbow so I'm not sure if that will affect the accuracy, but that is what AEM said to do in their instructions... My question is this. For my power goals current and future what is my best bet? JWT + a SAFC NEO for fine tuning, Greddy E-manage ultimate (Piggybacks), or a full standalone.. I can afford all of these but obviously the cheaper the better, and I don't want overkill. Thanks in advanced guys! I know its a very big question.

I had nothing but trouble with a JWT tune. It was always lean at idle.
Also, it's not the cheaper the better, it's the other way around. If you can afford a standalone, DO IT.

You need to worry more about the 12.9 under boost than you need to worry about idle and cruise. Thats going to hurt something.
Also, there is no "fine tuning" with a safc, there is just screwing up timing hoping to get the afr better. Mail order tunes and piggy backs are trouble.
If I can interject a suggestion, ka's do not like t2 flanged turbos. Your not going to get that power level either with a 2871r on a ka unless you are talking about dyno jet numbers, and whatever power you do come up with using a t2 turbo, your ka is going to hate you.
Just food for thought, dont get mad like some do as Im just trying to save your time and money.

Timing set correctly?
Positive you don't have any vacuum leaks?
Confirmed fuel pressure under boost?
How much boost are you running?
Any way to use a program to see values?
Sure an ECU can be off, but I like to confirm everything else is right before blaming a tune (or on the other side of it all, confirming everything is right before you get tuned).

Without a doubt, I'd look into this first.

Running 9psi, and thats what the tune is for, positive there are no leaks or anything.
And 4x4le why would you say that I can't reach 350 with a 2871r and cams? Also what turbo would you suggest?

^^ He's saying that you still choke that turbo before you make that power with a T2 turbine housing. Get a GT3071R and call it a day.

JWT ecu's are tuned for any specific 'psi'....
And it would make it, but you'd need to keep the timing safe to avoid melting her down.
Again, have you confirmed fuel pressure under boost? What are you MAF values?
