Can anyone give me some insight on a proper wheel/tire setup for drifting?
I was looking at getting 18x10 +20 all the way around, wrapped in 235/35's. Would this be appropriate? Obviously suspension plays a big role in this as well.

Yes, you can't drift a stock KA with less than 10 inch wide wheels.

Any explanation to this?

Skill plays the most important roll.
I'd suggest learning on smaller wheels/tires, so it's easier to break traction and learn how to drift at slower speeds.
But to answer you question, yes you can drift on them.

he's saying 10 inches wide is a lot of rubber on the ground which would need a lot of power to break loose. He was being sarcastic saying that a stock ka will be fine because you'd have a pretty hard time spinning those. but if you're running a 2j that should be much of a problem.
I'd say check the wheel fitment/build/tire fitment threads but a lot of those are stance set ups or people with money most of us will never see.
just look up specs to some of your favorite drifters/cars and check their wheel set ups.
Oh and to answer your question, yes that size is fine. I'd probably go 9 or 9.5 in front but that's just me.

I'd go with 215/40-17 w/ 17x9 front and 235/40-18 w/ 18x10 rear personally. But I'm pretty sure there's already a bazillon threads for this.

If you get serious into drifting and start doing steering angle mods like knuckles, you need to consider how wider front wheels will collide with the tension rod and sway bar earlier. You can always space out the wheels, but you only have so much room under the fenders. Also, 18 inch wheel tire combo will have a larger outer diameter and will contact the frame rail sooner than a 17 inch combo, requiring more control arm length and therefore increased camber and less room under the fender.
I run 17x9 +20 all around, but will be dropping down to a 17x8 in the front, offset to be determined. I will still be able to run a 235 tire, but with much more inboard clearance.
