Hello,

I recently purchased the DMAX Super Street Coil Overs from GTR-Garage during their sale for $690.00. I felt it was time to upgrade, since I had been using a few shock/springs set-ups for my car before using coil overs. Let me say on a side note how much of a pleasure it is to deal with GTR-Garage, they are excellent vendors.

These DMAX Coilovers come equipped with anodized camber plates in the front, 32-way damper adjustments, full ride height adjustment (they go VERY LOW!) and rear pillow ball mounts. Springs rates on these are 9k front 7k rear.

Here is a pic of one fresh out of packaging:

Here again:

I got them installed before I went into work at 88 Rotors, Thomas (excuse me if I got the wrong name) did the job efficiently and with the quickness! Thanks dude!

Here they are installed out of the box:
(I did not adjust the height, yet)

Here is the front, it looks like it sits a little high but this is out of the box height:

Let me take an intermission from pictures to tell you how much I enjoyed driving back from El Monte with these coilovers. They handle bumps in the road better than any shock/spring combo I have used.
GREAT for daily driving.

The next day I got to adjusting the coilovers with a couple buds, and some friends.

Whole car:

These Coilovers made a noticeable difference in confidence when DRIVING. During drifts the car feels much more stable & under control. Grip driving is insane now, I might need bigger spacers! No more 3rd gear understeer! For the price, I couldn't think of a better decision than to jump on these coilovers. I really wasn't even in need of coilovers, because I had basically brand new shocks & springs. (Which are for sale guys, they are in excellent condition, I promise!!)

This is my first review thread, any critique would actually be much appreciated. Anything to help this review get attention so people are aware these coilovers are the real deal, DON'T HESITATE, contact GTR-GARAGE and get yourself a set! If you are looking to spend $325, you can come up on new AGX shocks with Tanabe springs, pretty sweet deal!

Glad you liked the set up, looks good man. Now you can get some nice set of wheels to compliment the coils.

BTW the install on these coils were quite easy everything fit perfectly, great quality coils. And for that price you cant beat. PM me if you need any questions on the install or need to get things installed.

and yes the name is right lol

now I know dmax coilovers are quality stuff, ive been wondering about their suspension arms. im super tempted to buy a few of them, but I keep hearing its the Japanese version of megan. but its dmax and decently priced as opposed to spl or stance or tein orwhatever. any input from anyone about dmax arms?

They were running a special a while ago. It was when they had first picked up DMAX as a supplier...

Has anyone tried GP Sports G-Masters? Alot of guys use them in D1SL, and you can buy them from vividracing.com. DMAX Super Streets and GP Sports G-Master seem to be the most popular in Japan.

GTR-Garage
10-12-2013, 03:25 PM
The G-Masters are nice, but they're almost twice as expensive as the Super Streets. The D-Max D1 Spec are cheaper than them as well.

Good to see review threads like this. Especially when people get flamed so much for asking for others opinions on products such as these.
I was looking to swap my D2 coils for something else, maybe this is the route.

I thought the Super Street model came in 9/7k spring rate, whereas the Drift Spec or something like that were 8/6k?

You are correct. Super Street is 9/7 and D1 Spec is 8/6.

Might be a dumb comparison but I could have sworn DMAX coils where said to be better in some Japanese magazine???

They are the same thing, unless they performed magic on the valving or something.
Otherwise, every part on them is interchangeable with Megans. :)

The higher end ones, perhaps. These are just the generic entry model that every other company sells.

So I can snag those 25mm extended brackets and if I had Z32 knuckles in the rear, I can put Megan Z32 lower mounts on DMAX coilovers? And vice versa?

Proof? Or source?

We just put our Halloween special up for the Super Street coilovers. Not all of the D-Max supported drivers are running D1 Spec. Some are running Super Streets including Tanaka. If I recall correctly Nishio was running RYO Libra in the rear and Super Street up front.

Yeah if you look, I think the majority of D1SL drivers actually use Super Street coilovers instead of D1 Spec. D1 GRAND PRIX Official Websit (http://www.d1sl.jp/drivers/dr2013_index.html)

Seems like the most popular coilovers in D1GP/D1SL are DMAX D1 Spec/Super Street, GP Sports G-Master/G-Master Pro, and of course DG-5. Interesting. lol

I think they are really solid, especially for the price.
For what I am asking of them, I am very satisfied. Daily drive is way better now (although I only drive 5 miles a day lol) & I grip grip grip all day in the canyons.
It may be megan valving or whatever people say but I like em, the customer, and thats all that matters.

When you do get them, please put them on the lowest setting, please snap visible and informative pictures, put them to your desired height (unless your desired height was/is the lowest setting), and post them here in this thread.

so if anybody cares I finaly got my dmax super street coils, not posting any pics of my car until I get a decent pic...

as for my opinion on these, going from blown godspeed coils that came with my car about 3 years ago, these ride like a dream, drives excellent, takes any bump like a champ, I feel like it is a bit on the soft side but im still playing with them, I set the dampening to 20/32, I had it at 10/32 and I felt it was too soft, but either way I cant complain about the ride at all, I had a smile on my face after every bump I went over(my old coils sounded like a bomb going off wen I hit a bump) as for height adjustment, I took out a collar up front and slapped them on(maxxed out) didn't mess with the spring at all and im tucking half the letters on a 215/45 tire, the rear im about the same tucking tire at the letters and I still have about an inch to go, like I said ill post a pic of before and after when I get a chance to grab a good pic in the daytime

My whole experience with GTR-Garage was GOOD but USPS let me down. I got the group buy and paid for Space Available shipping. Apparently my first set was lost, so Kunio replaced the set and sent me a new set via Space available. They showed up about 14 days later and I slapped them on. They have some nice features, the build feels good, and so far they rebound really nicely. I haven't adjusted anything yet, so I'll tune back in with a more indepth review in the future. I will say they look like they can go plently low in the front and rear.

- The rear coils have a inspection slit cut in them, so to speak, so you can see how much further can thread the coilover down
- The dampener knobs are built in and seem to have some kind of secondary lock function on them?
- The front coilovers on the s13 and notched already for max camber, but come with a place and washer that locks the bolt in either the max or less camber setting. This is really cool!

I can post pics of what they look like without lowering. I just have not had the time to adjust the height however I can tell you this....They have plenty of adjustment left to go. In a non speculatory manner, I'm pretty confident to say that I could make my s14 drag on the ground with these coilovers. On a side note they ride great. I feel they are equivilent to my pro apexi N1s I had on my old s14.

Not a 240, but on S13 front suspension so it'll give you a general idea regardless.
Frame rails are about "1/2-"3/4 off the ground, pretty much tucking rim on 195/50/15s on the rear.

I've put about 2k on theses coils now and really like them. I plan to be going to with 12/10k Swifts 6" fronts and 7" rears to get lower but also be able to bring up from being fully bottomed out.

I havent realy seen a d1 soec coilover review yet, i have the streets and i love them so i csn imagine that the d1's are just as good if not better

The D1-Spec used inverted front dampers with more aggressive valving. They can handle more abuse, but aren't as smooth on the streets and may be uncomfortable for daily driving. There are actually a number of D1SL drivers running Super Streets vs. D1-Spec. These are D-Max support drivers of course, but they have been successful while running them.

I have D1 specs on my S14, ride quality isn't bad at all but, I have nothing to compare them to. Wish they would go lower in the rear but thats nothing drop knuckles wouldn't fix. Sadly I've had very limited time on them so I can't really give any good performance input, sorry.

D1SPEC dmax are dope, I really like the adjustment window, makes life easy. Also if you have an s13 and are running s14 knuckles, dmax already sends out a spacer washer / metal insert sleeve to fit s14 knuckle bolts onto the s13 coilover so your bolts aren't all loose.

s14's utilize bigger bolts than s13 on the front knuckle, lots of people running s14 front knuckles on s13's face the challenge of fitting those knuckle bolts into the coilover, most times they would have to buy a s14 lower coilover bracket, or drill out the s13 coilover bracket, or use s13 bolts metal insert sleeve.

DMAX eliminated that problem and made the holes big enough for s14 bolts and also included metal insert sleeves / washers to utilize s13 bolts.

metal insert sleeve information taken from fresh alloy

30mm long
ID is 11.91mm = 0.4685"
OD is 13.85mm = 0.5445"

They look great. Is that a Vertex wheel? I like how the stitching matches. http://ehealthca.com/ipad/images/22.gif http://ehealthca.com/ipad/images/37.gif

Hey Kunio, do you know of anyone running higher spring rates on the D1 Spec? I've been planning to run 10kg/8kg on whatever coilover I buy, but if I were to put these spring rates on D1 Specs, that would already be jumping 2KG up.

My debate right now is D1 Specs vs. PBMs, as I'm sure a lot of people are thinking the same.

It's so hard to find drivers running D1 Specs, especially since I don't speak Japanese and can't search sites like Minkara haha.

If you could provide more info, I'd really appreciate it! Maybe some drivers who run them?

We have had customers go with the 10/8 setup. D-Max will not go any higher than that with spring rates though. I know Nakamura was running that setup in his S13 back when he was with D-Max.

With that being said, PBM comes in the rates you want and are about the same price. They have a good reputation and provide plenty of technical data about their dampers. They sound like a good purchase to us. We'd be happy to sell you D1-Spec though. :naughty:

anyone got reviews on the arms?

Ive had experience with many coilovers. Tein super drifts, PBM gen 1 and 2, ksport, emusa (came on a car i purchased) and now the D1 spec D max coilovers. Let me just say, wow. The street-ability of these coilovers is incredible. They have amazing dampening, and for drifting there awesome also. We drive mostly in the mountains and the roads are never perfect, the difference between my pbm and dmax suspension was very noticeable. Ive also tracked my PBM and have no complaints, all of my suspension arms are PBM and they're a great company. But the Dmax are so much more street-able. So for anyone that doesn't have a track only car i would recommend them. I purchased these through GTR garage last year and the customer service was amazing. Highly recommended!

Are dmax tail lights the same as like circuit sport or cheap tails on eBay? Reason I ask is only r32 tails I can find in the states are those with the chrome housing, and the dmax looks identical.

yes, yes, a thousand times YES!

99.9% of all the cheezy altezza/clear style taillights are cheap chinese produced crap.

All the crystal and LED tails you see for sale by different Japanese makers and Circuit Sports, eBay, etc. all probably come from the same factory in Taiwan.

Also, if we're understanding what you mean about chrome "housing", you don't actually see that when you install the R32 tails. You move the covers from the factory taillights over to the LED tails. That cover... well covers all the chrome you are talking about. The only part of the actual LED tail assembly you would see are the two round lenses. They look like this installed:

this thread is alive?!
nice.
coilovers are still working just fine, no leaks or squeaks. I put at least 60 miles a day on the car now. I'm not about "lowbro" life but ill post a pic of the car with the new wheels I have on since they're 17" now.
occasionally I hear the "pop" noise if anyone was curious, but pretty sure its normal right?
anyway still worth 690 I paid...lol

Pop noise up front is normal while turning, you could alwasy get the roller bearings from Fortune Auto and eliminate that noise.

These will allow you to lay frame on the front at least, rears i have no clue as theyre on my friends S12 with the rear as separate shock/spring.

this isn't true at all

if you want to go low, do not buy these coilovers lol

fronts maxed out right now with all collars removed and running about -7 camber and it only tucks a bit of tire

rear is better for lowness. can just barely tuck an 18 with the collars out on the rear.
