My s14 build thread
Hello My name is Thomas, I am 23 years old and love to work on cars, I have read almost every build thread on this site and love to research the crap out of stuff in my free time then apply it to my car. This car is a work in progress and will be updated from time to time. I am doing all the work myself and really only have one to two days a week to work on the car as it is my main DD.
Well let me start off by saying when I was looking to get my first car I was looking for an S14, but came across a deal of a life time and in 2009 purchased a 2003 G35 Ivory pearl with Black interior (extremely rare) but it was a Auto trans with only 65,000 miles on it one owner which was my best friends dad for 9,000. Had minor front end damage which I repaired and did a few things to along the way. I was making about 285HP to the wheels all NA, car was a blast to drive. Well one day I decided to get stupid and totaled the car :( on 2/17/2013. Here are some pictures of the car before and after.

And Here are the after pictures:

Well I learned my lesson that's for damn sure… If I ever go fast again it will be on a closed course. I am lucky to be typing this right now, I really think there was someone watching above giving me another chance. I was lucky enough to only have half my tooth missing(which is now a cap) and a few chunks of glass in my arm some of which I removed the next morning then other pieces had to be surgically removed.
okay enough about my old car a stupid decisions, Time for my new ride to take shape.
Here is how the car looked about a week after I picked it up(4/9/2013) for 3200.00 with a salvage title from a minor front in hit and 143,xxx miles, I can't thank tocotacotaco enough for letting me keep this car at his house for like a month while we got it up to smog spec LOL and Vatche for lending time and space in his garage for me to work and ask stupid noob questions. Let me tell you, I had thought I had made a huge mistake buying this car on the ride home from North Hollywood to Oceanside. The car was in limp mode the whole way home barley getting above 65MPH on the freeway. We thought it was a MAF problem so we tried another one and it didn't help, then we found a leak in the EGR hoses and intake system, well it turned out the valve cover gasket was shot and oil was leaking into the spark plug chamber causing the car to run on 3 cylinders. After figuring that out I did the normal crap to make it pass smog, cap, rotor, EGR tube and system clean, oil change, fuel filter change, new plugs, plug wires, knock sensor, O2 sensors, timing adjustment, and finally a 97 front pipe made it pass after 5 attempts LOL.
****Side note**** I will never buy another salvage title car in my life, not only did it need a smog but it also needed a brake and lamp check and vin check. What a pain in the ass, even the smallest crack on a light would fail you!
Anyways this first picture was after I washed the car for the first time. In the bone stock form.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_0508_zpsb84f7638.jpg
The I wanted to have nice looking non-yellow lights so i polished them up with the 3M kit. Turned out really well as you can see how yellow they were in the first picture.
Also did a mini detail myself on the car.

Sorry for the crappy pics only ones I had of the time. Yes the car is a bone stock base, but I am 6'5''' so a Sunroof would not work for me lol.
Now I bought the car because the interior was mint and I mean MINT. So what did I do???? I added a nice headunit, speakers, and sub and upon taking out the old headunit i had found that the PO had hacked the radio trim to shit. Guess I will just have to purchase one later on down the road as it looks okay for now.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/IMG_0677_zps4990192e.jpg
Well I still had cash left and wanted to make a nice DD like my last car, well I guess I wanted it to handle and stop well so I bought the following parts:
BMC(300zx)
ES Subframe bushings
Coils Fortune auto 500 7k front 6k rear
Intake (carb legal cause my plastic one was cracked)
5 lug hubs
driftfreak motor and trans mounts
New FLCA PBM
RUCA PBM
inner and outer tie rods TEIN
SPL Eccentric Lockout Kit 95-98 Nissan 240sx
Z32 Brake setup
new rotors Z32
stoptech pads
Still need to purchase the following:
Traction rods PBM
Toe rods PBM
Tires 235/40/17
Lets start with the final interior finishing touches before getting into actual progression pictures of the exterior and suspension.
Well I figure since I will be DD'ing this car I might want to protect it as little, so I went with a BALLER Viper system from Toby Broadfield. Let me tell you Toby is a great guy and very willing to help with any questions you have. His service is excellent! Since the car is a base model I wanted to get all the features I could possibly get for the car. Power locks, Power windows with the push of a button, tilt sensor, trunk pop, smart start, and shock sensors. Well Toby came through with a great deal I could not pass up so here is the progression of my alarm install.
All laid out and labeled.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130730_092937_zpsc07b48ef.jpg
Going into the car:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130730_112504_zps1828b987.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130730_112423_zps665f153f.jpg
At this point I am about 99% done with the interior of the car, I want to buy the radio trim piece to fix the hacked up one, and replace the bulbs on the AC control panel. Also the rear speaker cover vibrates over some bumps and is really annoying so I might replace that with carpet and get some s14 floor mats as right now I have cheap walmart ones from the PO, and maybe to a quick release setup. The car is also a AT right now so I need to start piecing together a 5spd swap for it, but for DD I don’t mind the AT.
So from here I will be installing all the parts listed above once I purchase the few remaining parts I need which may take a couple weeks. Then I will try to tackle everything on a weekend but I may need to take longer than that as I want to paint the sub-frame, and under coat the fender wells and rear of the car. :eek3d:
Okay today I got a message saying my Rotors and brake pads were coming in today ( they didn't LOL). I was like oh shit! I better make sure I have all the parts for the 300zx brake swap!!!! While I was at it I felt it was a good idea to clean all the parts up. I also fixed my AC panel lights and emergency flasher bulb so all my instruments would light up at night so i could see what button I was pressing.
Here are the pictures of me uninstalling the AC controller, I had to be extremely carful because my trim piece has all the tabs and I wanted to keep it that way:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130820_133514_zps4f6d5ff3.jpg

So once I got it out i proceeded to follow these instructions:
My DIY On How to Fix your HVAC Lights (56k = gay) : 240sx General Discussion (http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-diy-on-how-to-fix-your-hvac-lights-56k-gay-t237696.html)
and then I told my self it might be a while till I have the trim piece off again so I tackled the Lights on the switches for the rear window defrost and emergency lights. Sorry did not grab any pictures of the process but I followed this DIY with "great success" LOL.
DIY: S14 dash switch bulb replacement : 240sx General Discussion (http://forums.nicoclub.com/diy-s14-dash-switch-bulb-replacement-t367998.html)
and here is the outcome of all my work on replacing the bulbs!!!!!

Turned out pretty good, I then looked at my 300zx brakes and wanted to shine them up a bit to so I polished the lettering.

Sorry for the dark picture, flash makes the powder coating look weird and the polished letters funky.

Well this week I was going to buy tires for my 5 lug rims so I could start on my suspension, Mine is completely blown LOL It's like a wizards sleeve. Get in my car to go to work a turn the key and all I get is a click FUUUUUUU starter!!!!!! Hop out tap the solenoid with a wrench and she fires up. The whole week it did that and I had finally had enough of it lol, went to NAPA today and got a rebuilt lifetime warranty starter and man does she crank now. I did not get any pictures as I was in a rush today to get to a memorial service, but I plan to order tires next week and a couple brake parts i need to complete on caliper. I did however finally pick up the Toe and Traction rods from PBM two weeks ago so I will have everything but the RLCA,Rear knuckle and Front spindle brand new.
Sorry for no Pictures just trying to keep my thread updated.
Tires came in today!!!!!!
federal 235/40/17's to go on my base G35 rims Front: 17"x7.5" +30mm offset
Rear: 17"x8" +33mm offset, these are just to get me buy till I can get a legit set of wheels.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130913_151324_zpsf6c7bdf4.jpg
I plan next weekend to actually make some real build thread progress! I am busy this weekend.
Update Time !!!
Well I couldn't wait for the weekend to start working on the car, Good news is I got word i didn't have to work on friday so that gave me a three day window to get stuff done. To be honest I should still be working right now but my neighbors would be pissed at me so i opted to go to bed early and wake up early to get back to work. So I got off work today around 4:30 and headed down to my local dealership to pick up some parts for my Z32 brakes, well I get there around 4:45 and they are closed. I guess I will have to drive down there tomorrow to get the parts as i need them for the front calipers. I cut my loses and head home, on the way home I say F it lets get the progress started. Get home clean the garage up and jack the car up!
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_174711_zps51f94c24.jpg
At this point a take the tires of and begin to inspect what needs to truly happen to drop the subframe. Since I had just drove about 30 miles I had to let the car cool down a little before I pulled the exhaust which I proceeded to do in about 5 mins which I couldn't believe how easy it was to do.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_181916_zpsdfb72ada.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_181935_zpsfaeeb103.jpg
At this Point I was like damn this shit is gunna be easy to drop out, I disconnected the drive shaft and then was able to disconnect the E-brake cables, since i was going to go with Z brakes I just disconnected the brake line at the hard line. From there I removed the bolt holding the shocks on then the two bolts on each plate for the subframe front two mounting points. After that removed the two front nuts on the subframe got my jack into position and took off the back two nuts and dropped it right out with out a problem. Took me about an hour an a half and I was taking my time, It was a lot easier than I thought it would be thats for sure.
Sub frame out!!!
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_191557_zps556a2760.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_191621_zps9a7cc5c5.jpghttp://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_191652_zps03bc03df.jpg
I knew my bushings were pretty bad but these almost fell out when i dropped the subframe they were so bad, funny thing was the fronts were the only bad ones were as the rears still had some life left, So it was time to get the old bushings out an get the subframe ready of the ES poly bushings I bought.http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_192249_zps2358a340.jpg
I cut them out, I burned them and I wire wheeled them and I am still only half way done LOL. I need to cut out the front bushing inner cage and clean the front two holes. So this is what it looks like now.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130919_221543_zps2a4477ef.jpg
I will Update tomorrow evening again and hope to have the complete rear subframe ready to go back in the car.
Well,
Today didn't go as planned LOL.
I wanted to try and get the rear end ready to go back in the car by tonight but I had errands to run all day and really only got about 4 hours or so to work on the car. I was able to cut the front cages out and clean up the sub frame a little.
Before:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130920_143534_zps8f65e735.jpg
after a little bit of cleaning still not done with it but you get the idea left the arms dirty because they will all be replaced:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130920_144634_zps6ebf5c99.jpg
Then I installed the bushings, went with ES bushings as this is my DD, if I pick up another S chassis I will go with solid mounts as it will be a track slut HAHA.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130920_154006_zps102ec2d3.jpg
Man getting the front to sleeves out were a pain in the ass, but now I know how to do it again lol. from here is where progress started to slow. I started on the rear Z 32 brake setup but had to leave to help a friend, I got one side torn down completely and got it ready to convert.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130920_162346_zps9996a20c.jpg
The other side still looks like this:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130920_160847_zpsccfc06c9.jpg
That was it for the day pretty much, but I did pull most of my parts out of hiding to snap some pictures of them lol

This is all I got done today rear brakes, all suspension parts and installed the subframe.

All parts installed
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130921_174515_zps8c90d4d4.jpg

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130921_183201_zps4954ac8c.jpg
The front stuff will go on in the morning, I feel like it needs MOAR LOW. But I need to roll the fenders and get an alignment.
Well today was a long day... I almost felt like giving up hope of having it done today but had a second wind push me to finish the car. I got up late as I felt like I needed the sleep from the three days previous. I got the front end jacked up
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130922_113403_zpsf1175e5c.jpg
Then proceeded to take the front suspension completely off the car I had to order steering rack boots and that set me back about an hour. Finally got both sides almost together
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130922_122544_zps8c7b6b20.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130922_165852_zpsd95bc031.jpg
after getting the shocks on I did my best to get the alignment set up and I feel like i need to get it to PBM ASAP for them to get the car aligned as almost all of their products are on my car.
Here is the finished product.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130922_205431_zps1114fba4.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/IMG_20130922_225314_zps58613cb7.jpg
Things I still need to complete are:
Bleed the brakes again as I feel like they are a little soft.
Get the Car to PBM for alignment.
Play with the coils to find a setting I like.
Buy new sway bars
VLSD
and a few other things.

Damn the car is stiff, Like almost to stiff. anyone have input on to how to make it DD able? I mean like after 25-30 min of driving my stomach feels like shit. I am going in for an alignment tomorrow and hope it will make it better but I almost feel as though I made a huge mistake with putting all these parts on. Maybe I am just a sissy but damn it pretty bad. This is my first car with coils and full suspension and it just feels off.
EDIT:
Got the car aligned and dialed in and it is much better now... I don't think I had everything installed correctly as far as preload and camber which made the car really ruff. Now I have a CEL for cat sensor bank one though so I think the plug to my first o2 sensor got messed up while working on the car, going to check everything over and make sure all the connections are good.

The paint is I really great shape actually, there is no need for it(pictures don't do it justice). However I will be putting new front fenders, hood, bumpers, sides and wing on it very soon. I just need to find a kouki wing, sides and kouki USDM tail lights. If I do anything to the motor it will be way down the road as it is my daily. But if i did any motor swap it would be RB25 series 2 for sure.

Nice progress so far. As for your stiffness complaint, what else did you expect did you expect with coilovers and spherical bearings? lol Even with 7/6kg spring rates and proper break in, it'll be stiff.

To be honest I didn't know what to expect.:picardfp:
I feel like after I drive it for a while it will get a little better and I will get used to it(and it has). Also I might add that I think the reason I feel as though it is to stiff might be because I think I am fighting a stomach flu right now LOL and thought it was the car making my stomach hurt but I am just sick. Just so happens that I got the bug the day after finishing the car.
Also I don't think there are any adjustable arms that aren't spherical that are of good quality?
What do you mean by proper break in? Sorry to sound like a noobie just curious.

Well, stock spring rates are ~2/2 kg. You've got 7/6 kg, that's almost 3x stiffer. Coilovers and relative comfort will never be in the same sentence with entry level coilovers like Fortune Auto. Not to say they aren't good coilovers, as I own a set myself and have owned other sets of FA's, but they were intended for off-road use.
There are good quality adjustable arms that aren't spherical: SPC. The only con about them is that they have a limited range of adjustability so if your goal is to go stupid low, you went the right direction with PBM. Being low (static) and having a comfortable ride is an oxymoron.
Springs break in and, though not proven, dampers also have a break in period. Springs do for sure settle though. Also, if you haven't read the instruction manual that Fortune provided, I would do everything in there. Not sure if the newer gen does this but with each Fortune Auto set I've had, I had to preload it a certain way for the front and rear, then I had to turn the damping adjuster from full soft to full stiff and back before driving.
Coilovers vs springs are just something to get used to or get rid of. When I use my S13 for commutes, I just slap stock struts back on and it's like night and day. Sure, my car doesn't conform to today's standards of cool but hey, I'm in and out of driveways a-ok

Thanks for the info, I have started to get used to it and i have only driven the car three days now, but man this stomach flu sucks lol, on the freeway the car is better riding than my G35 use to be, however on main roads that are beat up and patched everywhere it is a little bouncy but not horrible. I will read the instructions again for the FA's but I never saw the part about going full stiff then back to full soft again. pre load was set up to FA's instructions. I have heard horror stories about SPC products when I was looking to drop my G35 and that is why I never looked into their products.

My ruca, traction and toe arms are SPC, and I haven't had any real issues yet. The only issue I had was one of the arms un-did itself, so to speak, the locking nut(I think that's what it's called) that's supposed maintain the adjustment of it backed off from I can only conclude was from driving super shitty roads and harsh vibrations from said roads. I had to reattach the arms to itself and guess what the length of it was. I haven't measured the other side for reference to adjust its length yet. Other than that they've been fine I guess, hahah. I've had them since January and I'm also on Fortune Auto 500 coilovers.

Well I got my new alternator in, And while I was doing it got me thinking about cleaning the bay a little. I didn't have much time but at least I got it started by doing a little bit on the strut towers. I need to spend a day removing things from the bay and cleaning them with degreaser.
Here are some pictures

Well It has been a little while since my last update, nothing really has changed I have just been parts searching for 5spd parts and a Kouki Wing and trunk. Since I have put the exhaust on I really wanted to do the 5spd swap asap but sourcing a S14 trans has been a pain, I finally found one and made a down payment on it tonight. Now I need to start finding the other parts needed to complete the swap(if any one viewing this thread have s14 5spd parts hit me up). I have a complete Kouki conversion now minus the Wing and trunk but just waiting for a container to come in from my local importer. Now I just need to find primer and paint from my local auto-body supply store and get to prepping and painting the parts. Then the 5spd will follow.
I figured I would just repost some of the older pictures right after a did a mini detail on the car as today I did another one and took some pictures.

Well.... detailed the car yesterday as that is all I have really been having time to do. Here are the pictures of my interior and a few exterior shots. I am kind of in a limbo of what to do first, 5spd swap or kouki conversion. I have almost all the parts but a shifter, flywheel, clutch, MC, SC, and clutch line for the 5spd swap. As far as the kouki conversion all i need to do is spend the time to make sure everything fits then take it off and fix a few dings buy primer/paint/clear and paint it.
I am thinking the 5spd swap will get done before the body work, what do you guys think?

Well,
I have been waiting to do my 5spd swap because I need to take a day off work to complete it and want to make sure it goes smoothly without any hiccups. Well yesterday I am in class and my Alarm notifies me that it has been triggered. Since I was in a parking structure I knew that some people like to rev their shit and set off alarms so I keep checking my GPS to see if the car is moving anywhere. It was not, so I disarmed the car and armed it again and all the sensors checked out so I came to the conclusion that some Dick had done just that.
Well I was wrong..... As I got closer to my car I realized this had happened.
As you can see It took a real dumb ass to hit my car like that as I was parked as far away from the other spot and almost touching my rear bumper against the wall.

I spoke with the officer today, and the cameras are motion sensing and he said there was no footage of the accident :wtc: but, it could have been the computer he was on as it jumped in time from about an hour after I parked my car to an hour after I had left. Also he said that sometimes the cameras work and sometimes they don't.

Well Yesterday I got the good news that my car was in a "Blind spot" and that there was no footage of my car getting hit.
So I got home on friday after work and got a hair up my ass to fix the dented fender. After taking the fender off I got the crazy Idea just to go Kouki and call it a day as the damage was to much to fix and would take to much time. So I pulled the font end off. You can see the damage from the previous owner.

I felt like getting the hard part done first so I all have to do is the wiring after the trans gets in its new home. The brake pedal gave me a little trouble. Here are my pedals, I still need to adjust them a little to have then in the right place to my liking. Had to pull a little of the rubber floor out a little of get the brake pedal up there.

I kind of got stuck after this as I had issues with the flywheel so this is pretty much where I am at now, I will try to mate the transmission tomorrow if I can.
I am still a little confused on the wiring however as I am swapping ECU's for the correct 1996 MT and not sure if this information pertains to that or not.
http://www.ka24development.com/cwilfert/S14_tranny_swap_electrical.html
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. As this info kind of confuses me as I am not sure which wires can be removed and what can stay. I mean obviously the CAS sensor wires, O2 sensor wires, and the speed sensor wires need to stay but I am not sure how to or if i need to remove all the other stuff that was connected to the AT.

I had a problem with the new pilot bushing, I pushed it in a little to far and had to take it out and get a new one as it would not allow the transmission to go all the way into the clutch. I finally pulled the transmission out to find that problem out. Installed the new pilot bushing and the transmission went right in. Learned my lesson thats for sure!
Wired up my reverse lights and OD and neutral switches, bled the clutch and got everything buttoned up.
I have been driving the car for about 500 miles now and so the clutch is broken in and I am in love with being fully in control of my car now. Turned my car into a whole new car. The only problem is since i bought the Trans used it is very loud and needs a rebuild sooner than later. I makes a lot of bearing noise in all the gears and I thing the main shaft bearing is toast. All the syncros seem fine as it shifts buttery smooth, without any grinds or pop outs. Swapped ECU's so i have not cold start issues or CEL.
I didn't take many pictures because I was working as a one man show for the most part. I am sure most of you out there have done a 5spd swap before so there is really no need for all the pictures. I will however take pictures of the interior to show my shift know and new trim piece :) .
Here is a picture a 2AM after the first drive as a proper 5spd S14:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/IMG_20140509_243305_9962_zpsoi14zrol.jpg
And a few days after when I finally washed my car after it sat a week doing the swap. It sucked only being able to work on it after a full day of work but I got it done:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/0510141615a_zpswaecgl4d.jpg
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/0510141615c_zpsdydnxjkk.jpg
I guess I will just have to save up and get a rebuild kit for the transmission soon and pull it out and rebuild it so I have a fresh transmission, for that I will have more pictures.
All in all I could not be happier with how it turned out. Now that I have done the swap I have the knowledge to and experience to do it quicker IF I ever have to do it again.

Pictures are deceiving the hood and bumper need a repaint, as well the side skirts, rear bumper and valances. Yea I don't plan on going KA-T any time soon, so just a rebuild on the trans I got will be fine.

Well not much has been going on, I found a JDM grille used and swooped it up. I have been collecting parts here are there as well. I also decided I wanted to put my JDM rear bumper on and fog lights, now I just need to install the side skirts(need to find the correct hardware) and install my rear valances and it will be time to prep the body for paint. However I am kind of waiting to purchase new wheels and tires some Enkei NT03+M 18x9.5 +27 all around so I can roll the fenders into shape before paint.
I know this build is going slow and I apologize for the lack of updates, but time and money are the main problems right now. I work about 50 hours a week and got to school full time as well. But in the next couple of months I should have the wheels and tires on the car and begin to save up for paint then. I am also slowly putting funds aside for my turbo build and a nice bucket seat and quick release setup for the interior.
Here is the car in its current state, even though it is three different colors I feel like it is taking some shape finally.

So I couldn't help myself from getting a bucket seat lol.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/1107142045c_zpsy3ztwtcn.jpg
Since I am 6'4'' and 240LBS I had to get a Recaro SPG XL to fit my big ass... I also needed to make sure I could get the seat as low as possible so I custom made my own mounts to get the seat practically on the floor of the car. Here is the general mock up on the drivers side rails.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/1107142045a_zps1g6kxgna.jpg
And here are the two sides mocked up(excuse the blurry picture):
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/1107142045_zpsbuea2r0y.jpg
Here is the seat in the car for the first time all mounted up.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/240sx%20build/1116141610a_zpslazuxorm.jpg
I drove around with the rusted ass brackets for a couple of weeks fine tuning the brackets to get it to fit right to my liking. Then yesterday I took the seat out and sandblasted and painted the brackets since I finally got the seat where I wanted. With a helmet on I have plenty of clearance, and I can't even see my windshield washer nozzles on my hood any longer so I set pretty low now compared to stock. Here is the finished product, I know a bucket seat with stock wheel WTF! I should be able to get a quick release and wheel shortly here it get rid of the big bulky stock wheel.

Also I threw the the idea out about Enkie's and started to save up for the wheels I really wanted. The Sizes are 18x8.5 +25 and 18x9.5 +30 I know they are not the baller size wheels But I feel like I will be able to run some meat for tires since i am not into the stretched tire/major fender role type of person. Here are some pictures before the seller packed them up and shipped them to me.

They should be here by Friday the 19th, I will probably send them off to wheel flip and get them refinished so they will be looking like new. After those are installed and I have test fitted my side skirts I will be ready to get this thing painted. Was thinking of painting it myself, but not sure now as I am second guessing myself. I know that I will be doing the body work for sure myself so it is done right. I guess time will tell but hope to be ready to paint it by the beginning of summer.

The LMGT4 wheels arrived on the 18th and now I am just waiting to send them off to get refinished. I also ordered a bunch of goodies I couldn't pass up that popped up in the for sale section which have put the wheels on hold lol.
Here they are:

Nismo 330 GT full leather wheel, Nismo horn button, and Nismo oil cap. All of them are the old school lettering like my exhaust :) So I guess I have been bit by the Nismo bug.
I also ordered a works bell hub and NRG 2.5 quick release for the wheel, Shakitto plates and Carbing front strut bar:

I am waiting on the quick release to install the wheel. I am also picking up another item this weekend that will be a great addition prior to paint ;)
I have to replace the coolant sensors and thermostat (with a nismo one of course) as my car is throwing a P0125 code as of late. The I will be purchasing progressive sway bars front and rear and then the wheels and tires will be going on. I need to stop purchasing new parts but they are deals that only pop up every once in a while so oh well. I know I am not really posting build pictures but will be soon and hope to have the wheels refinished within the next month and then will be purchasing tires.

I would say i set like 2-3 inches lower than stock with my custom seat brackets depending on if i have the pads in the seat bottom. The great thing is that I can put my stock seat back in no problem. I used to hit with a helmet on with the stock seat now i have an inch easy with the pads in and 2 inches without the pads.
Thanks i am trying to buy only legit parts, no knock off shit.

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/Mobile%20Uploads/0107151919a_zpsn3yjjieb.jpg
And then the last piece the horn button, Nismo of course...
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/thomasj51600206/Mobile%20Uploads/0107151946a_zpskawdbtz3.jpg
All in all with the works bell hub the install was very easy, no SRS light, still have a horn, and turn signal cancel. This wheel with the bucket seat give me plenty of room in the car now which is great since i needed the space. It's also nice to be able to take the wheel off to get out of the car :naughty:.
Today after work I decided to see how the lip I picked up fit and how I would mount it besides just the normal places. Man I love OEM fitment.... it practically snapped onto the front bumper. I will need to secure it with screws in the general places but nothing more will be needed to make it fit like a glove. After these pictures I also mocked up my side skirts to see what they needed and i have decided to use the OEM mounts to make them set like factory without the use of double sided tape.

This was right after i got the fenders rolled but final ride height was not set yet in front. Going into a corner hard the tires would rub because I am not tubbed up front.

And finally here is a picture from today after a wash, unfortunately the sun was not out so the wheels weren't shining as much. But I raised the front a little and it doesn't seem to be rubbing anymore so this should be the height it stays at for a while.

Yes, I try to use quality parts on my car. I do see a lot of people using cheap shit on their cars a lot. I daily this car so i have to use products that last and they generally are OEM or of same quality or better than OEM. For my motor build which will be a slow process I will try to use brand name products that are tried and true in the industry. I have yet to really put a list together of what i really want the build to consist, but like i have applied to the current state of my car everything i choose i will have researched like a dope fiend trying to find a high lol.
I am glad there are others out there that appreciate a clean, period correct, built with quality parts car as it seems there are less and less of us around nowadays.

I wish I had bigger updates but I don't lol. I just moved into a new place. However now I must put the rest of the stuff I want to do on the back burner as I need to start saving up again. I have a motor and trans I would like to rebuild and go KA-T but the way things are looking it may just be a 2017 project. This is because my build list keeps getting bigger and bigger. I want to use quality parts and do it right the first time. So this means it's going to take some time to save up again lol. I have done a few things to the car however and figured I would keep all of you up to date.
First off I finally graduated college with a BA in Criminology and Justice studies. I am happy to say that the 240 took me to school everyday I needed without any issues except for that one time some ass hit my car in the parking lot...

I decided I needed to change up a few things on the car I had CTSV 4 pot brakes setting in my room for quite some time now and I figured that I should finally put them on the car. I wanted to try and get them on before I was planning to move into my new place.
I was unable to get them done while at my old place but was able to get most of the prep work done prior.

I wanted to pick up another transmission so I could rebuild it while building my motor. The plan is to have a fresh rebuilt trans, a fully built KA-T and a new one piece driveshaft to install all at the same time so the car will be almost like new. I was able to find one local that is in good shape so I will just be replacing the bearings in it and cleaning it up.
The past two weeks have been pretty crazy, I was able to start moving stuff into my new house that has a garage! I hope that in time I will be able to expand my tools and be able to work on my motor and trans whenever I feel the need. I can spend the time I need to make everything as clean as possible so when I am done it will look like I knew what I was doing :keke:
Here is a shot of my new garage attached to my house:

Yes that is a lift :naughty: I am super excited to start working on my car here instead of at my dads house like I have been doing.
So I wasn't able to do the brakes at my house because I need to work on my tool collection and the lift needs a little TLC. So on saturday I took the short 15min drive to my dads place to do some final touch up stuff on my car before this weekends extreme autofest San Diego where I will be showing the car. Since my car is a DD I doubt I will win any awards but I hope people will appreciate it for what it is.
First thing to do was to get the car in the air, as brakes were the task to accomplish for the day. The Z32 brakes were great but I wanted that extra bling of a BBK. While I had everything off I also did a little cleaning and painting of the inner fenders.

I also installed a new front JDM Grill and used black paint behind the front bumper to hide the core support a little better.
Here is how the car sets now, new grill, new tint (5%), new front brakes, new rear brakes, and painted inner fenders. I hope that my hard work has paid off, as of right now I am done with the exterior of the car and love the way it came out.

Yes JDM Aero is legit, but USDM is just as appealing! I think the BBK really set off the whole package on my car. Now I just need to go KA-T LOL. But I think I may need to buy a Daily first as this car is now a cop magnet!

Funny you say this, I have been thinking about an RB25 S2, however the problem like you said is the budget. Plus I already have two KA long blocks, two KA trans, a mani, and a Holset HY35 turbo setting in my garage. Along with a few other little odds and ends. So I think I will take a shot at KA-T done the right way then see where things go. I need a daily first though before any of that is in my future.
