Hi guys, just bought a 92 stock 240 and noticed something odd bringing it home. On the way back, i noticed a slight amount of smoke from the hood so I opened it up and found that oil had lightly sprayed over the motor. Looks like it fell on the fan and that's what caused it to splash all over. However, I could not locate any leaks of any kind. Anyone have any ideas?

Why don't you clean the engine up then start it with the hood up while you watch for oil.

previous owner probably put fresh oil in there before selling you the car. possibly spilled, but yeah, clean it up and start hunting if not

check the front main seal... if its really REALLY worn, it will sling motor all over from the pulley...
is there oil on the underside of the hood?

Probably just an oil change without a funnel.
I always think I can get away without using a funnel, and nearly always end up with oil on the head and exhaust heat shield.
If you care about the motor looking pretty, degrease the engine bay, if not, WOT will take care of it.
It's not dangerous to your motor unless you're low on the dipstick, but it will be dangerous to your parking spot if there's an actual leak. And remember to check your oil, even if it doesn't burn oil a leak can make it consume quite a bit.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll be taking a closer look into it today.

spray brake cleaner all over the engine while it is cool and start it up and look near the valve cover and the front crank pulley area. I just replaced a ka24de because of a severe vc and front main seal leaking and the person ignored it. I do not know if these front seals are prone to leaks but check closely.

The way mine leaks would say they are prone to leaks.
