Hey guys, I'll try to make this short but also informative so you understand my whole situation.
I recently did a 5-lug + brake conversion to my S13...well, maybe an impatient half-ass 5-lug + brake conversion. The reason it can be considered half-ass is because my friend recently pulled the VH45 out of a Q45, and it so happened to have 5 lug rotors and brake calipers that fit perfectly on my S13. I already had the hubs. And already ordered wheels. No more money left (no job; my money has been saved up and I also receive financial aid for college). My friend let me take the rotors and brake calipers for free. After all, we both split the payment on that Q45.
So anyways, I did everything and installed the hubs, rotors, calipers, and wheels and tires. Then I realized that the little contraption at the other end of the S13 handbrake/e-brake does not at all connect to the Q45 rear calipers.
So for the past few weeks I've been driving and parking with no e-brake to prevent the car from rolling away. Yes, stupid. Should've waited but I just couldn't. I really wanted new wheels!! Lol. Sorry, I'm just your typical 19 year old kid.
I'm guessing I should've have just saved money for the whole Z32 rotor/caliper/e-brake kit setup? I'm not so sure how hard it will be to do the brake conversion...hopefully not as hard as removing a tranny to replace the flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch disc and reinstalling it to working condition (which me and my friend have done, so far the "hardest" thing we've done together).
Is it bad for me to put my 240 in 1st gear and leave it parked like that? Only relying on it being in 1st gear to prevent it from rolling? I'm starting to think it is bad because recently - only when I turn the engine on and leave a parking spot (never happens while driving or at a stop sign or red light, etc.) - I have encountered a rubbing-like sound coming from my transmission. It sounds and feels like it is coming directly from the clutch disc/pressure plate/ release bearing area. I feel it when I hold my stick shift knob. When I slowly pull out ;) it makes this noise, 90% of the time when I'm in reverse. It's done it a couple times when I pull out driving forward, but yeah.
Am I totally fucking up the clutch kit my buddy and I just installed because I am always relying on just 1st gear to hold my car from rolling away? What is experiencing the most pressure when my car is in 1st gear, parked without a brake? I hope to be wrong, but it pretty much seems like I'm screwing up something in the tranny.
I don't fully understand the mechanics of how putting a car into gear works and what interacts with what sadly, but am willing to learn.
