I made an account here to get so.e input and pros and cons for this trade I can possibly get. I live in pennsylvania and I have a guy who wants to trade a imported 93 silvia obviously rhd for my 2008 mazdaspeed3. The speed has a cobb acessport brand new enkei ammodo wheels injen intake eibach springs greddy electronic boost gauge cobb turbo inlet 3 inch test pipe back exhaust and custom built rear strut tower bars. Doin some lookin my car is worth 12k to 13k. Now ive been lookin into wanting to trade the car to start drifting and keep autocrossing and the car will be a streetable project car. Now here is a parts list he sent me over a text (has 10k miles on the build)
Here's a mod list:
Just had new 1 peice drive shaft and solid yokes put in on 3-8-13
*Engine -Blacktop sr20det -BC 264 in/excams -GReddy intake cam gear -BC Titanium valve springs and retainers -P2M Rocker arm stoppers -Power enterprises 3 layer head gasket -ARP head studs -Curcuit Sports thermal intake manifold gasket -S15 7-layer exhaust manifold gasket -Isis turbo manifold -Garrett GT2871rs a/r.64 -JECS 850cc injectors -APT oil restrictor -Isis oil/water lines -GReddy turbo Elbow -3" Megan Downpipe -3" testpipe -3-1/4" HKS Hi-Power cat-back exhuast -GReddy intake pipe -Z32 maf -HKS shroom Air filter -Isis intercooler piping -GReddy intercooler -HKS SSQV BOV -SPEC 14lbs. flywheel -SPEC stage 3 sprung 6 puck clutch -Isis short shifter -3 core Koyo rad. w/ dual 12" e-fans -Custom overflow tank -z32 fuel filter -Nismo type A adjustable FPR with fuel pressure gauge -Enthalpy tuned E5 ecu
*Interior/Electronics -AEM Wideband -GReddy profec-b 2 boost con. -HKS Turbo timer -S14 seats -Battleground floor mats - White Roll cage -IAT dual A-pillar gauge pod -Megan racing oil pressure gauge -Megan racing oil temp gauge
*Exterior -RARE oem Aero bumper -6K hids -5 Lug conversion -Aluminum 30mm z32 calipers (black with polished NISSAN) -Steel braided conversion brake lines -Tien coilovers -J30 differential -5 bolt axles -Rolled and pulled fenders with Eastwood Fender Roller
Wheels -XXR 526 17x10+20 (4.5" lip) with Falken 255 rear's,17x9+25 with Nitto Neogens 225 fronts -ARP extended wheel studs,...
But the car needs some body work. Clear coat is pealin on roof and hood. And needs 2 front fenders. And a paint job.. but needs some minor things fixed like window switches and such. Hes putting new tires and a winshield in and going to get it inspected and give me cash on top, unsure of how much though.
The biggest thing to me is I am trading a 2008 for a 93.. the mazda got 107k miles the silvia has 150k km or 90k miles.
Is it worth it? Later on one day if I got it all fixed is it worth more then 13k? If I could have some feedback good or bad that would be great. I love devil advocates lol. Oh don't mind my spelling and grammer because I am on my phone lol.. ill get pictures of both cars on here shortly

I wouldnt do that trade, never. Like you said a 2008 for a 93........
You should liquidate before you try to get a 240, say if you can get 13k for your car, buy a 240 for 3-4k and than BUILD IT YOURSELF! more fun that way, than ur not one of those bought not built guys. lol
I wouldnt want a 240 someone else built. Like dating your friends ex-girlfriend.
AND a 240 will NEVER be worth 13k. especially a drift slut that needs 2 front fenders (which are rare as hell & not cheap) + a paint job!?!
sounds like someone else's headache, besides that you dont know the HISTORY of tihs guys build + how is a RHD imported SILVIA with a sr20 black top streetable??
just keep your mazda.
dont get an s-chassis
buy a miata

Listen to what Scope240sx said. Unless you want to regret this trade for the rest of your life. And the feeling that you will be made fun of by others after telling them the story. DONT DO IT. 2008 for a 93. The convo shouldve ended there.

I've built my own crazy stuff before and yea I'd prefer to build my own stuff. But I mean the mazda is getting a little tired with the 107k miles, and I am absolutely tired of front wheel drive, I've had 500hp fwd cars before and yea for what I like doing ( taking turns ) sometimes it doesn't help. I've seen some silvia's with little work done to it run 10 to 13k for it, and I have been just trying to sell the speed, but its hard finding someone with that much money for it. Nothing really hard about driving the silvia around town once in a while, it won't be a daily, but more for going to get ice cream with the woman on the weekend or going racing, I have a 02 civic DD.

The silvia has a lot of goodies, but its a 5-8k car tops. Even if it is a real JDM import that might stretch it to 10k but i wouldnt trade unless it was immaculate

Well like I said he was going to throw money on top of the car, and if its a nice chunk of change (3 grand or so) which could really help right now with bills and get some of the stuff fixed on the car.

Just saying man, 240's are not worth that much money. I dont care if its "FROM THA MOTHALAND!!!" or not, its still an S13, LHD or RHD...
here's what 4k can get u

Honestly, if he's gonna put money on top (atleast $3k, maybe $4k since you gotta find fenders), think its not that bad of a deal. Just do the usual rust check (wheel wells, frame rails, hood cowl, trunk) shouldnt be too rusted if it came from the mainland.
Questions: Why the hell does it need fenders? Window switches can be a pain in the ass since you'd need JDM/RHD switches and you cant use US switches. These cars arent exactly easy to find any more in Japan so finding used OEM parts are starting to get tricky and pricey. But if you can get $4k on top, even better. Fix the lil stuff, fenders, paint and maybe even have enough to get better coilovers since Tein sucks. Car should be good enough to hit 350-380whp depending on the trim and tune.

i took my mazda in to try trading it for a 2010 hyundai genesis 3.8 track pack 6 speed. my car only valued 7400 due to black book value and would be sold at a auction. It was at a dealership one of my best friends work at, so he got me bottom dollar on the genesis (18.5k kbb says it should be 20.5k, but couldn't get squat for the speed3, they just don't hold value like a wrx or evo you know, and that was one thing i was considering. The rarity, it serves my purpose of getting into drifting and keep autocrossing, and because it has a cage, just get a solid mounted seat then start entering hill climb events, and if anything engine wise broke / blew up, sr20's are pretty cheap to replace, and I know how to tune pretty well ( tuned my speed on my own map I built running 20psi spikes 22psi, holds 11.8:1 - 11.9:1 afr's, 1700 psi of fuel pressure on the stock fuel pump, and still get 32 mpg on the high way haha. North park autocross 2 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39PQxZRSwiA)
but yea I understand where you are coming from scope.
93_silvia
07-19-2013, 11:11 AM
The car is tuned now and runs a little over 400whp. Low boost is like 325whp. Yea and I figured I would put it through my check ( PA state inspection and emissions certified ) and I am going to try getting it to my brothers work to get it on a rack to fully go through the underside of it.
here look what I just found :) http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-NISSAN-SILVIA-S13-180SX-240SX-KOUKI-TYPE-X-CONVERSION-FENDER-GUARD-SET-89-93-/370837459226?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5657a2911a&vxp=mtr
I think the fenders got fucked up when the wider wheels got put on and nobody pulled the fenders out to clear, so when hitting bumps and pot holes and shit the tire kept hitting the fender.

Why do you want to trade your car for 240?
Seriously. keep your mazdaspeed. fast and reliable. done.
brndck
07-19-2013, 11:15 AM
I would say his car +$4k or so would be a fair trade.
S-chassis do not hold their resale value well and usually you can put $10k of parts on a $1k shell and then it's worth maybe $6k.
fliprayzin240sx
07-19-2013, 12:16 PM
Well, its not just another S-chassis since its a real JDM S13 Silvia. Think there's value there for its mad JDM tyte yo effect. Like I said, they're getting harder and harder to find anywhere in the world.

07-19-2013, 12:22 PM
exactly flip thank you, thats exactly what I've been saying and thinking lol. In my head I'm thinking, even though its a nissan, you'll see more Lambo's and Ferrari's then a real silvia in the states. Also another way to think of it probably a really bad comparison but you all will get the point. Almost like someone trading a 69 camaro that needs some work, but once its pristine it's worth 30k+. As brndck said, a 1k 240sx with 10k in parts is worth 6k, which is understandable, but not to a real imported silvia, I mean shit, to import it here was probably 2500 to 3grand alone lol

@107k, have you had the TSB done for VVT issues? Those engines even after the TSB is done aren't very reliable in high mileage situations.
Given what I have seen out of the MS3 community, not only is it not something I would ever want to be apart of, but their cars really don't take the abuse as well as I would expect. The DISI system is still such garbage and I think at 107k the life span is drawing to an end.
Locally a MS3 with that kind of miles is worth in the 8.5k or less area. Even MS6's have trouble moving in the 8-9k area once they start tipping 90k.

07-19-2013, 12:33 PM
I have no problems with the speed engine or transmission wise. She's still really quick, had the turbo replaced at 65k miles already, and never had a problem with the vvt. I have seen guys with 180k on a stock block with just a few simple mods. they can be reliable when treated right

07-19-2013, 12:53 PM
You know why dealer offer $7400. cuz you mod the hell out of it. Dealers do not want to sell and warranty used modded cars :axe:
Do yourself a favor and trade it for least a used Porsche Boxer or 06+ 350z. Worth it until the end.

nope wasn't that, They gave me a blind offer on it. I didn't even take it in to get appraised, its 7400 in clean condition. : / i have dents and scratches and shit from normal dd use lol

I'm not saying s13's are bad (I have one) It's just because It's newer in year.

they offered you 7400 cause your friend gave you bottom dollar on the hyundai! Its called stealing the trade, I do it for a living. Compensate for what your losing on your product by getting some money back on the trade in: stealing the trade.

Yeah, no, yes the 88 year Silvia's are 25 years old, but the new law doesn't kick in until 2014, so it is still illegal, you are gonna go from being able to drive a car on the street to driving a car worring about being pulled over, possibly getting caught for a federal offence, sure it's a silvia but you guys are acting like its really so impossible to find one, never take your car to a dealership for any kind of trade or appraisel, they will low ball the shit out of you, all and all, your seemingly have your mind set already judging by your screen name
aznnoodleboi
07-19-2013, 06:53 PM
^What new law..? Its legal as of now. If the car has passed the current date of 25year+ or within a month it is legal to import through customs. 88 Silvias began production in May.
With the original manufacturers paper work its a easy 123 to get it registered.. Only other issue is registering the car in CA as we need a Carb certification to get the car registered but that can still be worked around.
OPs car on the other hand will have trouble driving on the streets as its a Gray market car. It can be seized by the federal government since it was not imported through Customs HS7. Theres not really a way to get around that unless you fake a HS7 importation document and even then his car is a 93 -.-
Honestly I wouldnt take that car even if it was given to me...

Silvias in Japan just regular DDs or parking lot junk considering their strict emissions law on older cars. People would love to get rid of their pristine Silvia for price of used rims.. Your gonna start seeing lots more popping up this coming year

Fire sale the Mazda for 8000$ and pick up a stock coupe for $3000. Put 5000$ into it for wheels, coilovers and a motor. Legal, fast and built to your own specs. Mazda 3 are girly cars no matter how fast they are so I would recommend getting out of it asap before your balls shrink.

Make 10000000000000000000% sure that has a title, for some reason I think (but could be very wrong) that he was selling it on a local forum for 6k WITHOUT a title.
Be very careful.
