So Im changing my head gasket and go to tighten the head when the last stud Im tightening feels weird. I pull it up and a helicoil comes up with it......great. And the outside of the helicoil was stripped. What do I do now? Ive been looking online and the only thing ive seen is the big sert helicoil repairer.

Go to the auto store, get a helicoil kit. Put in a new helicoil and thread bolt. It is very easy to use, and means that the threads are stripped in that hole if you didnt know. It is a simple and cheap fix.

Is the inside or the outside of the helicoil stripped? You can probably get away with running one size up on the helicoil, and run a big bolt if the outside is stripped. If the inside is stripped, you can probably swap it for another same sized one. Im not 100% sure since i dont see pictures of the coil. If I saw what youre talking about, i can tell you for sure man. Feel free to pm me if i dont get back to you on this post.

Only the outside of the helicoil was stripped. The inside was fine.

See if a time-cert works for your case. If not you'll need it welded/re drilled/retapped/re-time-certed.

Ok just to give an update. The bigsert kit was too big. I returned it and got the 2200 toyota kit. I can say its well worth the 415 bucks. It was so easy to do. I would recommend this kit to anyone that has to re-tap a block. Thanks again CodyAce!!
