If I can get rid of everything in close to one swoop I'd definitely think about it.

Haha, that's a good question. I hadn't really done a whole lot of homework on the SR until I was a fair way into the project. Had I known some of its inherent problems earlier there is no way I would have gone with it!
My loss, your gain I suppose...this wouldn't be the first thing I've changed on the project :)

$5000, but maybe you can budge me a little :) I'd also trade for a similarly setup CA18.

hmm very interesting , though the SR is widely used for roadracing in Japan. CA's are awesome but parts hmmm. Anyways this is a very nice engine. someone should want it. free bump

I have a CA18 and parts arnt that hard to come by if you have relatives in Japan and speak Japanese :P
But seriously, most parts can be found with relative ease and its really not that hard to find parts, OEM or after market.

Are you aware of the advantages the SR has over the CA? Better flowing head, weight, larger displacement. The CA is a great motor, but dont pick it just because it is iron. And if you decide to part out I want at least 8 of those parts.

From all available info, it seems the CA is actually lighter than the SR. I don't have any flow numbers available for either head (if someone can show me some that would be great). Of course the larger displacement is nice...
However, the rocker arm setup still scares the shit out of me for constant 7500+ rpm use on a roadrace track. A 'proper' valvetrain seems far more appealing to me at this point. I don't want to turn this into a CA vs SR debate again, buy my engine!

Sorry not trying to start a flame war. I guess I can see your point, but SRs have proven their strength time and time again. Have fun using your 8500 redline now :)
O and if you decide to part out email me at

you built all of that but didnt beef up the valve train to with hold what you want to do with it? seems like a shame to start over when I'm SURE the parts are there to make the VT as bullet proof as you want. just my two cents. looks like you put some hellish work into this one man.

of course not hate or anything but a Z car will do quite well with a 6 clylinder in it aka RB20 or RB25. ya you save some weight running a 4 cylinder in the car but the only place the car was ever setup with a 4 banger in it was in Japan for insurance reasons. i.e. Japanese insurance is based on displacement. None the less the dope Fairladys even in Japan came with 2 liter DOHC triple solex sidedraft carb sixes . So it stands to reason the engine to put in a Z would still be a 6 and not a 4 . 4's are for 510's IMHO. but still bump for a good engine.

Thanks! Right now the car weighs 2150lbs with 15 gallons of gas in the cell...I also have carbon fiber doors and rear hatch w/lexan coming in, so I expect it will come in around 1900lbs when its all done.
Not bad ;)
