engine start flop flop flop... i need to replace my mounts... from what i recall the options are :
stock mounts (pricey)
nismo mounts (pricey)
urethane filled mounts (cheap + 1 week curing)
what i'm confused about is the installation...
-urethane mounts - car up, jack or hoist up the engine a bit and take them out, degrease and let them cure for a week. that means no car for a week (duh); -and- you let the engine sit or hang there for the whole week? O_o
-replacement mounts - jack up car (can it be done on two stands - just the front?), jack/hoist up the engine and just swap the mounts right in? say hoist it up to slacken the weight, swap one mount (make sure its in good) then swap the other?
apparently the process is so ridiculously simple that all the threads dealing with mounts have info on the mounts themselves but not the actual install, so i'm a bit confused. my car is parked in a private open air parking garage for many many people so leaving the car sitting up in the air for a week isn't an option. i need to have this done in a day. help is appreciated...

I have nismo mounts sitting in the garage waiting to go in. It doesn't look technically hard, but it's grunt work for sure and my car is FILTHY in that area....... which is why I haven't done it already. :faint:
I'm pretty sure I've got it figured out, but I'd like to hear any experienced input too.

Dood, just get the Nismo mounts....they feel so much better... They are definitely worthwhile. Check them out on my signature site...

Is it true that the Nismo mounts raise the engine an inch?

yup thats pretty much it. you just jack up the car, put it on stands, then use a jack to get the engine up ( ive heard with a hoist, it can be a pain to let the engine drop afterwards cause it keeps moving, but i didnt try it so..). once you got the engine up enough to get the mounts up, take out one side at a time. but be careful with the nuts, mine rounded off really easily. i had to cut th whole damn thing off...

thanks man... now that i know someone has done it this way i'm not quite as scared to try it myself heh... aite that's this weekend's project if the weather agrees.
s14db : well based on what i've read (remember i have no REAL experience) the reason installing new mounts raise the engine an inch is because the current mounts have sunk from holding up the engine for 10+ years. if that's true then installing OEM mounts would also do the same.
as for the shameless plug from alex above :D, i checked out ur website and that seems like a pretty good price if those are nismo mounts. i believe the part numbers are correct although i'm really surprised that you guys didn't flaunt the 'nismo' brand name. they're listed as just 'engine insulators' and there are two LH and RH, but it won't say nismo. the name threw me off and took a bit to find it. those are the mounts, right

i'd have to wonder about the Nismo mounts being any better than filled mounts.... The range you can get filling the mounts yourself is very large, from slightly harder than stock to near rock solid.
As for removing the mounts: use lots of PB blaster. Blast the top and bottom every couple days untill you decide to do them. Makes life so much simpler.

i would just do the poly-mount except i need this car to get to work and back everyday... without a set of junky mounts to fall back on i pretty much need this car up and running the same day. i'll probably take out the stock mounts and do the polyurethane treatment on them anyway... if the work isn't too troublesome, maybe i'll swap them again and do a comparison of nismo vs poly'd.
however, thanks for the input ace... i didn't realize you could actually adjust the stiffness to your liking by the amount (or quality?) of urethane.

Nismo mounts do raise the KA an inch. They also are harder than stock. I have a definite increase in vibration making its way to the cabin. Using Poly is good too because if you find that it is too stiff, you can always swap them out and you'll only be down $5.

As far as I know, the biggest thing you have to watch out for is stripping the damn Nuts. I stripped my driver side since the steering rack kinda got on my way. That was a bitch to get out. Tranny the easiest.

You could get really adventurous and try using mounts from the frontier. I've heard that they are thinner and let the engine sit lower.
You could get some from a junkyard or online jyard www.car-part.com and fill them with urethanehttp://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0307scc_projser18_z.jpg
"The Spec-V's engine mounts are horribly squishy. This tube of 3M Windo-Weld fast-curing urethane goo (part # 051135-08609) is the solution. "

I probably would have tried this if I hadn't gotten so excited and bought the Nismo mounts on impulse. =P

search button is your friend. however, since this is my thread and its almost time to go home i think i'll be nice and answer your question. its just your beat up stock mounts filled with industrial grade polyurethane (buyable from your local hardware store). take the mounts out, degrease them, fill them with poly and let them dry for a week. voila : polyurethane mounts.
