I have been looking at some tuning options for my RB20det. Currently the engine is all stock, but it could run better. Upgrades are in the future for this engine so I am looking for something that can optimize my current set up is capable of supporting a bigger turbo, etc.

I've heard Nistune and MegaSquirt are both financially reasonable, but I'd like to hear some opinions of both before making a decision. I hear Megasquirt installation is a little more complicated than Nistune, is it really that complicated?

Nistune is P&P, with the Megasquirt you would wire and build the ECU. Nistune would be the easier route but lack a ton of features that are on the MS e.g. Speed density tuning, closed loop boost control, launch control, input for flex fuel sensor ect.

Just go with a haltech and buy the right unit the first time. You'll be better off learning on the platform anyways. The most important part of your car is the brain. Don't skimp on the brain. I don't get people who drop 1000-3000 on rims (i.e. the shoes of the car) but don't want to spend more than 500 on the brain. This is where all of the cars power and capability comes from. :picardfp:

i had a nistune for my rb20det. and now for my rb25. nothing but good things. interface is so easy a caveman can do it. and wiring is easy if you follow the right diagram. Support is also there and kicks ass.

go nistune

Why stop there ? Skip the Haltech. Get a full fledged pro crew to bring and setup the car everywhere you go. This way you will always get what is best for your car. I dont get people who drop 2000 on the brain of their car but dont want to spend 10.000 per day on a decent crew. This is where all of the cars power and capability comes from. :picardfp:

Why stop there? Skip the pro crew. Carry a fleet of cars on a set of private jets everywhere you go. This way you will always have the best car to fit your mood for the day. I dont get people who drop 10.000 per day on a decent crew but dont want to spent $17,312,578.00 on a few used jets and a fleet of performance vehicles. This is where all the cars power and capability comes from. :picardfp:

mega squirt is a great learning experience but IIRC you will need to run ford edis for ignition unless they have a decoder wheel for the CAS now. I know megasquirt 3 with extra is capable of decoding the rb25 cas but that is extra money... In all honesty you should just buy the nistune. And to the idiot that says i dont get why people dont spend 2000 on the ecu its a fricken mildly modded engine you dont need to go all out until you have some major mods.

Thanks for the help guys. I've seen something called a trigger wheel on sites like rawbrokerage.com. Is this the "decoder?" Also, Im not familiar with the Ford edis system. Could somebody please elaborate?
